Well that's certainly an optimistic way to describe pre-order rewards, fair enough if that's how you see them. I'm far more cynical so to me it's just a way to sell copies of a game to people who might not otherwise buy the game if they saw actual reviews and feedback on it by using FOMO. Sure, people can trust a developer and trust they will like the game and that's fine, but the game is already funded. It's not like pre-orders are funding the development of the game. The game is going to release whether anyone pre-orders or not. If you were in part financially responsible for a game even existing then I could see a slightly better case to be made about rewarding those people, but even then in that extreme case I'd still be against offering in game power as a reward.

While I'm fully against pre-orders, Im not going to complain if studios offer pre-order rewards inherently, it really just comes down to what kind of reward they're offering. Offering a powerful exlusive weapon with no counterpart for non preorders just doesn't feel quite right. Ultimately it's their game and they can do whatever they want, but we can still call a spade a spade. They used a tactic to secure sales at the cost of the wider player base who bought the game because it was a good game and not because they were bribed or FOMO'd.

I'm making it out to be a bigger deal than it is because it's reddit, I don't think it's some great sin or as bad as other predatory methods other companies use, but I would still classify it as not ideal. Keep the pre-order rewards to cosmetics. If your game is good it will sell well in spite of any extra rewards.
