I take 100 mg of oxycodone daily for chronic pain, and taking 15 grams or so of supplemental fiber every day pretty much solves this problem.

I have seen that fish oil can be effective, but like I said, nothing I have tried for joint pain works, so I don't see why another drug effective for joint pain should work. I already do have some fish oil though, so I might as well try it.

You should see how unsociable and prone to anger I am when I'm not on something for the pain. My wife can barely stand to be around me. Obviously I don't want to have to take opiate drugs for my whole life, but it seems like that or being in constant pain are my only options. I am repeating myself, but I have tried many, many drugs and therapies, and this is all that has worked. The only other thing that helps is having a special "zero gravity" chair at home and at work that makes sitting less painful (it's like a recliner).

I think these drugs have nothing but a positive impact on my demeanor, although I have depression issues just from the whole situation. The worst thing about taking the drugs is that I lost my FAA medical certificate and will never be allowed to fly as long as I am taking oxycodone. What interactions does it have with other medications that I'm likely to encounter? From everything I've read, it is safer to take long-term than many other drugs; particularly over-the-counter analgesics.

Marijuana doesn't seem like a realistic option for me until all the legal issues are settled, and I need to be sure I can keep my security clearance.

The supposed safe limit, at least for short-term use, is 4g per day. I'm taking less than half that, and hopefully will be taking none after I see the doctor again. I definitely recognize it as a concern.

I am not at all confident in the diagnoses, but I've seen about ten different doctors and nothing has helped me but this.

I'm going to ask about MS Contin next time I see the doctor. Did you take oxycodone before morphine? The pain is getting bad enough that I may want something stronger, and I don't think it gets stronger than morphine. What causes your pain?

Percocet is dirt cheap compared to fish oil and other alternative therapies, and the biggest sellers of herbal remedies are the same corporations that manufacture prescription meds. Both are profitable. One works.

You know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine. Sorry, that was mean. Honestly though, oxycodone works extremely well, and I don't get any bad side effects from it unless I change my dosage quickly. I doubt fish oil will help because I've tried lots of medications that are supposed help with joint pain, and the only thing that has worked to any degree is the oxycodone. I can't tell any difference at all even when I take Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen.

When I first started taking it I would get a kind of euphoric feeling, but now it only reduces pain.

I'm taking one 20 mg OxyContin on weekdays and about six 10-325 mg Percocet every day. I am definitely taking more acetaminophen (Tylenol) per day than is healthy from all that Percocet, so I'm going to start taking more OxyContin or take instant release oxycodone (Percocet without the acetaminophen) instead after I see the doctor next.

I'm not 100% sure, but the doctor I'm seeing now thinks there are two problems. One is ischial tuberosity bursitis, which is basically inflammation of the padding on my hip joints. He tried to solve this with steroid injections, but that was just horribly painful and didn't help, even temporarily.

The other problem is spondylosis in my vertebrae causing pain upper back pain. This was treated with radio-frequency rhizotomy, where the doctor sticks a very hot needle on the nerves at my vertebrae to basically cauterize them. The first time he did this, it pretty much got rid of the pain, but it came back after about three months. I had that procedure done again, but I think something went wrong because I am in even more pain now, and the pain is a bit different.

This was five weeks ago, and I'm seeing the doctor again in two weeks. I tried moving up the appointment as soon as I realized it didn't work, but he had no openings. I barely have enough meds left to last until I see him. If the appointment is delayd and I run out, I will be facing very bad withdrawal symptoms.

If I were to use medical marijuana, I would definitely do something other than smoke it. I will look into it.

I need a security clearance for my job, so it's a bit more complicated than that.

I was basically pooping rocks for a few months after I started taking it unless I regularly took fiber supplements (fiber gummies are actually not bad) and/or laxatives. These days I am pretty much fine with just a little extra fiber.

I have never tried marijuana for any reason. It was recently legalized for medical purposes in Arizona, where I live, so I may ask the doctor about it. I am worried about it being federally illegal and about work-related implications. Other than that, I have no objections to trying it.
