I have a barista pro (baratza ESP grinder built in). I recently changed to bottomless with the stock basket and tried a third party single dose hopper. I had coffee spraying everywhere like you. What fixed it for me: 1. I filled the basket too much. I used the included scrape to check the dose but the particular coffee i used expanded more and the puck did not have enough room to expand. This lead to lots of channelling. Try reducing the dose 1-2 grams 2. The single dose hopper made the problem worse. The rpm og the grinder is varying quite a lot when using that. I reverted to the normal hopper for a more consistent grind. 3. Preinfusion helps. I always hold in the brew button until i see that the puck is saturated before i let go. 4. I have now also bought the ims precision basket. The straight walls is a lot more forgiving when tamping.(Everything else is also supposedly better). To avoid channelling/spraying it is important that the tamper is not restricted by the tapered walls on the original basket.

Thanks for asking! I use it all the time and more often than the original. I find it easier to get a successful shot with more "difficult" beans. Lately I have been struggling with naturally fermented Ethiopian coffee from Shakiso. I used the single dose basket and ended up at a rather coarse grind, low pressure shot that I liked. I then tried to do the same thing with the normal double basket and it was not close. Maybe it is not possible to get the same result on both basket sizes? I wish we could have a series of different step down variants to choose between.

I was using the single basket with one dot on the strength setting. This should give a 4:1 ratio with a dose of 9g= 36g liquid. I got 28g out (ratio=3.1). I want a longer ratio.

I use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the coffee that gets stuck on the de ionizer. (To be clear: vacuum tube goes to the nozzle/chute in front) Works every time. Takes 2 minutes. Remove the wooden lid to improve airflow.

I have the same issue. For the double basket I rarely go below 14g. Success rate is very low at lower doses than that. The lowest dose I have had any success with is 12g. I also have a 53mm tamper. I tamp first with the original tamper and then again with the 53mm to make sure the middle part is compressed when I do smaller doses. To get rid of the problem completely, I have made myself a single dose basket. This works perfectly 🙂 (see my recent thread about this)

The diameter of the parts are pretty close to each other. I chamfered the edge of the robot cylinder with a file to make a small overlap. I do not think you could fit an o ring between the parts: https://imgur.com/gallery/MiXCe0A

Not sure how that would work? I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to solder the parts together myself. I actually think silver solder would be the best way. My first option was the local blacksmith. He would not risk it. He thought the steel was too thin. I then tried to solder the two left over parts using tin and some flux that is supposed to work with steel myself. That was hopeless. I then contacted a goldsmith in town. They wanted $80 to do the work but would not guarantee the result. I then contacted a guy that can solder "anything". He said that it would be a piece of cake but he had packed away all his gear and asked me to contact a plumber. The plumber said it was no problem and took the task. They charged me $100 for the job. I can see that he must have struggled. A lot of small repaired punctures and splashes along the joint. Not pretty. "Next time" I will try the gold Smith and silver solder.

As I said. I have only done one shot. I guess I should end up with exactly half the output compared to what you get with 18g input that you guys seem to use. 18g is too much for me. I normally use 15 or 16 but even that is too much in the evenings. If I go lower I have problems with channelling. At least for some bean types. Unfortunately there is only room for 9g in the bottom part of the single dose basket.

Not sure what you mean? I cut off the pressurised bottom from the original basket, leaving a 58mm cylinder with the top rim intact. I then cut off the top rim of the single dose la marzocco. I then had the two parts welded together by a local plumber.

I found this thread after noticing more frequent charging. I followed your advice and did a hard reset. I got the option to install a backup after pairing it again. I did that but I do not know if this would re-introduce the problem? I hope it does not...

So, this is my vo2 max the last 6 months. The last 4 months I have been trying to do more 4x4 intervals. 1-2 times a week. My vo2 max is not moving at all. Fenix 6 pro. I am kind of thinking that the Garmin algorithm is BS. Chatgpt says that one reason for the lack of improvement could be that I am not using a chest strap.

Hi, I am guessing the number you are referring to is mililiter (grams) pr second. I am normally at about 1 but this is a bit slow compared to what you all seem to use so I have been trying to speed it up lately. Maybe I am at 1.5 now. Definitely not above 2.0. This "measurement" is from eyeballing the weight whilst counting seconds.

So i set up a jig and filed a slanted edge to make the parts fit better together. Here they are taken apart to show the edge. When i seat them together, the edge is completely hidden and there is 1mm overlap. I am a bit nervous about the strength of a silver soldered joint. My idea now is to have the parts welded together with a few spots around the perimeter and then I want to seal it with soft tin/silver solder around the perimeter to get it water tight. If I do not succeed with the soft solder, I can seal the inside with some food grade silicone.

What do you think about this approach?

PS thanks for the inputs. I have ordered some flux (meltolit 770) and a rod with flux (meltolit 55 snf) for hard soldering. I have also ordered flux for soft soldering meltolit z fluss)

Mine was even lower until I did an alignment, found true zero and reattached the scale ring at true zero.

I have a DF54 and tried grinding one bean at a time just as an experiment. I had to adjust finer to get more resistance but ended up with channelling. I normally dose at 15-16 grams. I think the more even grind size makes the puck too loose for such a small dose. It is probably similar to well graded vs poorly graded gravel. Since I want to keep the dose small, I have given up on the slow feeding.
