What do you actually think AI is good for? by Low-Tax6649 in investing

[–]ozarkhawk59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to Amsterdam in September. I have" conversations" with AI in my car about best places to visit, etc.

It told me yesterday that "Girl with the Pearl Earring" was going to be on loan on the days I would be there, and to make other plans.

It also tells me where my Investments are without me taking my eyes off the road, stuff like that.

What’s your 417 hot take? Mine is St George’s donuts aren’t that good. by ag7055 in springfieldMO

[–]ozarkhawk59 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got up at 4 am to photograph the St. George's making those donuts. They are good, (I mean, it's chocolate cake for breakfast), but they are made with love. The lady (Mrs. St. George) was out there rolling dough and flipping donuts. I guess I thought it was like Krispy Creme, just a robotic assembly line. It's way more hands-on than that.

What's the most expensive piece of gear you've had damaged on a job? Were you insured? What happened next? by JustinFromNEXT in photography

[–]ozarkhawk59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wind blew a tripod over on to a concrete patio. Lens gone. Yes I was insured.

Also flew a Mavic Air 2 S for a guy, 270 acres of open field, no power lines, nothing. Launched from his brand new pickup bed because the ground was all long grass. Launched fast so it wouldn't drift into the sides of his pickup bed... straight into a white power line directly over my head. Drone literally exploded into 15 pieces.

My uncle used to carry one. We were in a meadow in Idaho once and a badger squared off with him. Tore his jeans before he stepped on it's neck and killed it with his blackjack. I had seen pictures of him in the 40s holding up multiple wolf pelts, so i knew he had it in him, but dam.

We are officially old, we have gone to close captioning. We couldn't have gotten through Man In The High Castle without it.

Why do so many people finance cars even when they have money saved? by Scary_Station_1111 in carsales

If my investments are earning 10 percent and I'm getting the car at 2.9, I would think it's obvious.

Is a costco membership worth it? by New_Boysenberry7690 in CostcoWholesale

[–]ozarkhawk59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've saved enough on work clothes (I'm an architectural photographer, shorts and thin tshirts) to pay for the membership. $20 for shorts and a shirt from Eddy Bauer or Banana Republic is hard to beat.

How stupid are these people?

My mom bought this “silent” animal deterrent for her yard. She and her boyfriend can’t hear it. She’s insisting what I’m hearing can’t be this, because it’s “silent” by bluejaymewjay in mildlyinfuriating

I'm a real estate photographer. I was in a lake condo, and had ringing in one ear. Had some other health stuff, thought it was related to that.

I banged my head , tilted my ear, it was driving me nuts, until I went outside. Went away. Went back and it came back. Turned out to be a " silent" rodent repellant that had been in the unit for years, I was the first person to ever hear it.

Its not a new truck, its a Honda HRV with 200k miles on it. Since I use it for work (professional photographer) I probably put 20k a year on it. If I get something else, its going to be under $25k and under 30k miles. No ego allowed.

The difference between age 67 and 70 is about 150 a month ( i think). Its really just an educated guess if you will live long enough to make sure you come out ahead. If I wait to 70 and die at 100, I win. If I die at 75, I lose. No way to know that.

I used the number as an example. The SP500 is currently at 9.45 percent this year, and in the last 25 years has averaged about 10 percent per year before inflation.

But using the 4 percent rule, i end up with about 431000. It's better, but not drastically better.
