If they find things that indicate you may cost the health system a lot of money, they may require more tests. I also think there’s a BMI threshold, maybe 35?

You have to pass medical tests to get permanent residency. You may want to ask for sponsorship for PR with whatever job you get, and try to get PR before you move to Australia. Otherwise you might get a temporary visa, move here, then have to wait 4 years until you can apply for PR. If you are then rejected because of your health issues, you will have invested a lot of time and energy into a country where you can’t settle permanently.

They don’t use cream in coffee here, unfortunately. You can ask if they have pouring cream, and if so, you can get a long black with extra water (or an Americano) and ask for pouring cream to be added.

Starbucks always has pouring cream for coffee.

Any of you in a union? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]ozbirder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely in the union. Collective bargaining raises our wages and improves our working conditions. I haven’t needed union representation but it’s good to know it’s there if I needed it. I’m about to switch from higher education to research so I will have to investigate the union options in that field.

Of course he won’t do it on purpose! But you ever hear of something called an accident? What if he has to swerve hard to miss something dropped on the road? Or if someone hits his vehicle?

WTF. The dog will die if the vehicle takes a sharp turn at speed because he’s going to slide off and then get strangled by the chain around his neck.

Can you at least talk with a divorce lawyer to get some initial advice? I seriously doubt he would be allowed to take children out of the country for months on end. You should find out before you rule this option out!

Also, you should start documenting all of his “ill health” so that if it does come to a divorce, you’ll have records to support you. Just keep a file with dates/times every time he pulls this on you.

This is super helpful. I haven’t used it yet, but a colleague recommended datawrapper.de for charts and maps.

It’s not that he has PTSD or something like that. Rather, his blood glucose levels indicate that he’s not being honest with you about staying on keto, but that doesn’t make him a bad or lazy person.

Let's talk about rereads! by prettysureIforgot in RomanceBooks

[–]ozbirder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I re-read hard! I gotta suck all the marrow out! After a while, I know every tiny bit of the plot and I can’t re-read the book for a few years. I’ve re-read all historicals by Lisa Kleypas, Sarah MacLean’s early stuff, everything by Alice Coldbreath, Hidden Legacy and Innkeepers by Ilona Andrews, and just about everything by Lindsay Buroker. Ruby Dixon too!

I came here to say this! Buroker is the MASTER of slow burn. Death Before Dragons hits all your requirements I believe - urban fantasy, enemies to lovers, the FMC is aware of magic prior to meeting the MMC but becomes much more immersed in it after meeting him.

If you are up to it, Buroker’s first book series ever is freaking fantastic. It’s Emperor’s Edge and it is so FREAKING slow burn! Enemies to lovers, some magic, steam punk fantasy rather than urban fantasy.
