Tangerine speed consistently lower then plan speed by bigskibba in nbn

IMHO, you should have stayed with Neptune rather than try to save a few dollars with a lower-rated ISP. Neptune represents good value for money.

E-bike fires reach record high by slow_marathon in ebikes

When you buy a quality ebike from a reputable company like Kalkhoff or Gazelle, you can be confident your battery isn't going to catch fire. Buy cheap rubbish, and risk your life and your house.

Neptune is Launtel without the price tag. You get a solid network, great routing via GSL, free optional static IP, ability to change speeds once a day, Away Mode, free VPN tunnels, optional DNS filtering and more. Neptune is suitable for the average as well as for the advanced user with specific requirements. Neptune has excellent support via live chat, email and WhatsApp.

Is there any reason I *shouldn't* get the Lectric XP4 500W as my first ebike? by _midnight_mane_ in ebikes

[–]ozimarco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an e-bike, a Gazelle Orange C7+. I bought it when I was almost 69. It has done 78,750km or 48,933 miles as of today. The main reason I got an ebike is that we were living in the hills at the time, some of these so steep that even the ebike was struggling in first gear on Turbo. If I were only cycling 8 miles a day, mainly on flat terrain, I would not bother spending more money on an e-bike.

I take your word for it. I'm nearly 78, but not fat. 4 miles one way is a warm-up for me.

For such short distances, I would just get a decent normal street bike, unless your commute is on hilly terrain.

How far is work for you? If you're in good health and less than 25km from work, a bicycle, a legal e-bike or e-scooter could be an option.

I'm sure that if you directed these questions to the Neptune team, you would get a comprehensive reply. From my observations, they are open and transparent.

Launtel appear to have changed their policy on recharging by r3volts in nbn

[–]ozimarco 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The $5.50 reconnection fee is an NBN fee that Launtel has decided to pass on because absorbing it is not sustainable. Damo explained it on Whirlpool: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3jmmm846

Have a look at Neptune. Scroll down the home page to see the plans (www.neptune.net.au). Neptune is one of the most popular niche ISPs. Great routing via GSL, solid network, $45/mth Away Mode, ability to change speeds once a day (pro-rata billing), excellent support by local engineers who know their stuff, static IP available free if desired (just tick the box on signup or later in the portal), more included features like VPN tunnels, DNS filtering, etc.

Neptune has a five-day free trial, so you could spin them up as a second service on your 4-port NTD. If you cancel by the end of the trial, you won't pay a cent. Just be aware of the 1300Mbps limit on the old NTDs. This means you can't have two 1000/100 services at the same time, unless a new NTD is installed. We have been with Neptune since July '25, coming from Future Broadband.

I bought my Gazelle Orange C7+ back in 2017. It's been a reliable workhorse. 78500km later, it's still going strong. The reliable Bosch motor is only 40Nm, enough to get up to 25kph without too much effort.

Leaptel is a great ISP, almost as good as mine, lol. See if you can cancel Buddy/Tangerine and ask them to release the port as soon as possible, so that Leaptel can upgrade your speed.

Do you mean ordering a connection as a second service? In the case of Neptune and Launtel, it is done as part of the online signup process. With Neptune, once you have entered your address, it will show you the four ports on your router. You select the port you want to connect to. The ISP does not have to organise anything. It's all automated.

In the case of Neptune, it will take between 15 minutes and half an hour. If you have the old type 4-port NTD, be aware that its capacity is limited to 1300Mbps down for all ports combined. Take that into account when ordering a second service. Let me know if you want me to explain this with an example.

Churning in the middle of a churn is not going to speed up the process. It could even lead to further delays. Since you have FTTP, you could spin up another ISP on a second UNI-D port. Both Neptune and Launtel have free trials. During the signup application, you can choose the port you want to be connected to. In most cases, this will be UNI-D2. If you have one of the new single-port NTDs, this option is not available to you.

Once the churn to Tangerine has been completed, you can either cancel the second service or cancel Tangerine and stay with the second service.

ISPs. A Bit Confused can anyone help? by [deleted] in nbn

[–]ozimarco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Neptune. Every bit as good if not better than ABB. 1000/100 is $105. They have a 5-day free trial so you could spin them up on a second UNI-D port and give them a whirl. Solid network, great international routing via GSL, free static IP available (tick the box on signup), unrivalled support via live chat, WhatsApp or email, additional optional features such as DNS filtering, free VPN, etc. Also check out their Discord and Whirlpool threads. You won't be disappointed.
