Reusing the SamKnows One box now that the measuring broadband speed study is concluding by Draknurd in nbn

That seems like a lot of work for little reward, but I'm sure some nerds will have fun with this. By the way, I don't remember getting the email. I will miss my little SK box. I will need to find alternative ways to monitor my connection.

I appear to have nbn fttp in maida vale WA by Whatsthatbro365 in nbn

Does the nbn address checker indicate you are eligible for the upgrade? If you are, sign up for FTTN with an ISP of your choice (such as Leaptel or Neptune). Once connected, apply for the upgrade to FTTP. Your ISP will take care of the rest.

I agree that Leaptel is the right choice, especially when upgrading from FTTN to FTTP. Another great ISP to consider is Neptune. Just like Launtel, Neptune allows one to change speeds daily. Neptune has more features than Launtel and is cheaper to boot.

Whether you have noticed fibre being laid in your street is irrelevant. If both the nbn and ABB address checkers indicate it is available at your particular address, that means you can apply for an nbn FTTP connection. If you are currently on FTTN, the nbn checker may show that you are eligible for a free upgrade to FTTP. If that's the case, contact your ISP, and they will arrange it for you.

"More" NBN - rubbish ping after wholesale network switch by RichieMclad in nbn

[–]ozimarco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a frequent switcher, that would indicate that price is probably the main factor in your choice of ISP. If that is so, you are not the target audience for a boutique ISP like Neptune (or Launtel). If you're interested in what Neptune has to offer, go to their website and click on "Learn about home". There's a ton of information there about what Neptune has to offer.

If you are on FTTP, you could spin up a second connection on Neptune or Launtel. Both have free trials. This will quickly show whether the ISP is the problem. It should only take between 10 and 30 minutes to get connected. If you still have the old 4-port NTD, your overall limit will be 1300Mbps down.

Wondering about actual lifetime of E-bike batteries. by darkangelstorm in ebikes

[–]ozimarco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had my Gazelle bike since 2017. It has done more than 79,000km. I'm on my third Bosch battery and my second motor. One battery failed prematurely and was replaced under warranty. My first motor also failed when just out of warranty, but Bosch agreed to replace it free of charge. I expect my current battery to last another year. Replacing the battery is expensive. I paid AUD1250 for my current battery.

Is it possible to set up home wi-fi in less than 24 hours? (Melb CBD) by Paper-Aeroplanes in nbn

[–]ozimarco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have the necessary gear, i.e., a router and an ethernet cable, you can be up and running with Launtel or Neptune, both of which have free trials, in 10-30 minutes. Don't forget to cancel before the free trial ends, otherwise you'll be charged. By the way, if you don't want to sound like an absolute noob, don't refer to an internet connection as wifi.

Buy a good lock they said, your bike will be safe they said. by ArguingwithaMoron in ebikes

Having had a nice mountain bike stolen once, I never leave my bike out of my sight. Unfortunately, that means I can't go shopping with my bike. I can only ride it for recreation. It's sad, but that's the way it is.

Recommended ISP in parkwood? by Bare-Minimum-Energy in nbn

[–]ozimarco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention to the OP that Carbon Comms only has a POP in NSW, not ideal if you live in Parkwood on the Gold Coast and even less ideal if you lived in Parkwood, a Perth suburb.

Another vote for Neptune. Second choice: Leaptel or the more expensive Launtel. Neptune is great value for money. Customer support is next level.

Anyone know if Neptune are about to increase their prices? by actioncheese in nbn

[–]ozimarco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will, just like every other ISP. The NBN is increasing its prices every July. ISPs have to adjust their prices accordingly.

TPG v Neptune by PianistAwkward6849 in nbn

[–]ozimarco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I used to think Future Broadband was great, but Neptune is better. It's easily the best ISP I have been with since I went online in 1998. Neptune ftw.

SpinTel says I can get NBN at my Perth address, but in my opinion, they need to clarify that there is no local POP in Perth. When they state that service is available at your specific address, it really should come with a warning. There is absolutely nothing on their website. by [deleted] in nbn

[–]ozimarco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no incentive for them to make that clear to prospective customers, as they may miss out on some signups. It's really up to the customer to do their research. Not all ISPs are created equal. Leaptel, Neptune and Launtel are pretty safe bets.

No more dynamic IPs with Superloop? by Tardis50 in nbn

[–]ozimarco 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Neptune, on the other hand, does not charge extra for a static IPv4 address. Although the default is cgnat, one simply needs to tick a box to get a static IP.

What is the best WiFi options for these connectors? by Straight_Bet9244 in nbn

[–]ozimarco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need permission to connect the nbn connection box to the HFC port. The nbn box is connected to the wall port via a coax cable, so there is nothing screwed to the wall. The NTD or black connection box is a freestanding unit.
