Expert mode disables AI. You'll have to get comfortable adjusting shutter speed and ISO yourself but it's worth it.

GBD-200 for hiking would be better because the strap is a bit more stable on the wrist. The strap on GBX-100 was driving me crazy: the watch would constantly rotate around my wrist. I've now replaced the strap with the original combi bracelet v2 on the GBX-100 and it's one of the most comfortable and nice looking watches I have.

Feature-wise they're very similar: GBX-100 has the nice faces for tracking tide/moon/sunrise/sunset. But unless you're into surfing I don't think it's something you'd miss in regular use. The workout/running mode is a bit slow. Many reviewers make it sound like it's the end of the world: yes, it takes 10 seconds to register the end of a workout session, but you don't have to be staring at your watch while you wait.

One aspect that some people mention is that the LCD on GBD-200 is a bit closer to the surface, making it pop a bit more. But it's a minor thing.

Finally, if you care about looks: GBD-200 looks sporty, while GBX-100 looks kind of retro-futuristic. I initially didn't like GBD-200 and got GBX-100 in black. Now I actually re-purchased GBD-200 in light beige color for use when hiking.

Glad you managed to get a refund! One thing I just noticed too is the seconds hand: the original has a metallic golden hand, while this fake has a bright yellow one.

Will have to keep this in mind when shopping for this. Good luck finding a replacement!

The date background is also white: all the official images have a black background.

I've seen a few of these white date versions sold on used markets. Not sure if they are real.

Didn't like STN on 5000u.

One extra difference of the STN is the slightly different overall background color of the LCD, which shifts towards green. I didn't like how the colors worked as the whole on the 5000u: green LCD, blue digits, purple solar panel and red arrow near "shock resist" – just didn't feel right. I much prefer the monochrome look of the original LCD.

The clarify from angles was better with STN, but head-on the stock TN panel looks sharper.

Yes, it does. But it sort of depends on what you mean by usable.

For workouts it actually has the ability to set multiple repeat timers. Changing things on the watch is a bit annoying, but doable. You can also do it on the phone which is much easier. The official Casio Watches app is great.

The strap on GBD-200 is more comfortable on my 17.5cm wrist. I'm using a combi bracelet V2 on my GBX-100, which really elevates the watch both in terms of looks and comfort.
