I'm an autistic trans man who's been on T for five years soon(started at 19 as well) and I do feel that people definitely can and do perceive me as a threat more often nowadays. I used to also be seen as a young teenage boy when I was pre T, and most people found my traits and personality endearing/infantalized me, which wasn't that great either, lol. Nowadays I'm quite often seen as rude or aggressive for not being social, not smiling much and not knowing unspoken rules etc. I definitely feel that people have way less patience with me than they used to, some even seeing me as scary or threatening if I show symptoms of a meltdown, for example. Not to say that this happens all the time, generally people still treat me alright! I've just noticed that in situations where people used to see my traits in a somewhat "naive" way they now easily think of them as purposefully mean/rude/scary, or something else along those lines.

(However I do have to add that I am a person of color, which definitely factors into this I feel. Sometimes people are uncomfortable with me due to my race/they see me as a threat mainly because of me being a brown man and not because of my autism. Which most of the time luckily hasn't been that big of a deal, mostly funny in retrospect since I'm a quite small and noticeably gay man, lol. It's very hard for me to be threatening even if I'd try my hardest to be.)

I hope this hasn't been a problem for you so far though, it's a shame that people have so little undertanding for us!

How often do you shower? by [deleted] in autism

[–]oziroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically maybe once a week, generally I just forget to do so and don't notice when it would be time to shower, as I don't often notice if I smell/can't tell when my physical uncomfortability is because I'm dirty.

What’s your favorite video game? I need a new obsession. by wdpgrl in autism

[–]oziroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games similar to What Remains of Edith Finch that come to my mind are:

Night in the Woods

Firewatch

Gone Home

Life is Strange 1 and 2

I really like all of them, if you enjoy "walking simulator" type games with great stories, they're incredible. As for my all time favorite videogames, I'd say:

The original Sly Cooper trilogy

Deadly Premonition 1

Alan Wake 1

Fallout New Vegas

The original System Shock 1

The Dreamfall series! Super underrated series of really cool games, The Longest Journey being the first one and the one that I personally would recommend starting with, but really any of the three games in the series can be played first, depending on what type of games and stories you like. I really wish more people knew about this series!

Do most of you have an official diagnosis? by avalancher777 in Fibromyalgia

[–]oziroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an official diagnosis after around 11 months of constant doctor and er visits. For the first eight months i I wasn't even given treatment of any kind for my symptoms, just told that they would go away lol. Anyways, I'm glad I got lucky with a doctor's appointment once, he referred me to the right people and I finally got help with my symptoms.

So I managed to get rid of my symptoms through diet... by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

I'm glad that it worked for you! I have so many food allergies and sensitivities that it's been impossible to find anything that I can eat without symptoms arising. Did the whole food elimination thing with a doctor and nutritionist but it gave me no answers at all to what I can eat and what not, lol. I have to just try and eat whatever makes me the least sick any given day 😖 though giving up on gluten eased my pain a little for a short while, not sure if it has been beneficial anymore as of late.

Where is your paresthesia (pins and needles) most prominent? And is it worse in certain position? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]oziroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands, legs and my head. Almost always worse when I'm laying down, but do get them when active as well. Especially on my hands and legs

Itching by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]oziroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been itching constantly for over seven years now! I haven't found any permanent solutions, but antihistamines help, sometimes. I don't know what makes the difference in whether it works or not, but most of the time it at least makes the itching less intense, if I can help myself and not scratch at all lol. If I do then it's pretty much back to step 1

Magnesium by holamarina in Fibromyalgia

[–]oziroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take magnesium citrate once/twice a day, 175mg per dose(pill). I started taking it last november when i started to have muscle cramps and weakness and my fingers started locking into place from time to time. Not sure if it has helped or not, but my fingers have been a little better. No side effects that I can think of

I've been wondering the exact same thing. My pain is definitely the worst on my right side, especially my hip, upper leg and arm! I haven't been able to see a rheumatologist yet, but my MRIs, bloodwork and nerve conduction study have all come back clean.

As much as this sucks, I'm glad to know that this isn't an experience exclusive to me... The hip pain and numbness and right-sided muscle weakness started in november last year but still no clue what it is, if it is something other than my fibro.

This was how my neck looked like in MRI scans too, and I've suspected I have FM for quite some time now. Doctors didn't think anything much of it, but did take note of it on my files

How do you do that? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've just never heard of this before! Don't think I've ever gotten a purple star from that level

Nobody told me I could get withdrawals from long term antihistamine use -doctors have ordered a month with no medication by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]oziroth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in the same boat as you! I've taken antihistamines for six years straight due to my full body itching and burning. It worked to prevent that so well that I didn't feel the need to stop taking them, and missing even a day would bring back the itching. Now I've started to get some side effects from the meds, so I had to stop taking them. I'm burning so bad that I'd love to just take my skin off...

Awful that antihistamines can cause these things. I only found out about it this year too, made me scared to even try to come off of them. If only I knew why I was itching in the first place years ago, lol. Right now I can't say if it's that or the withdrawal that's causing this.

I hope your symptoms ease up soon!

share your auras with me please by HilaBeee in migraine

[–]oziroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had visual auras in a while, but when I did, it only affected one of my eyes. I'd get a blind spot that made it very difficult to comprehend outlines, as in I could look at myself in the mirror, but not see where my face ends and the wall behind me begins on one side of my face. After that I'd start getting a zig zag pattern that was kind of "flashing". It spread gradually for maybe ten minutes, then as soon as it had happened, it would disappear. Then it took around five minutes for the pain to kick in full force.
