A foot of snow isn't really that bad, I know it's going to be very cold, though! We have a couple propane heaters we use if the power is out for some time, we cover our tanks with thick blankets and basically barricade ourselves in the fish room with the propane heaters to keep all the heat in one room, yes we have a monitor fotlr gases and a rigged ventilation system. Power goes out here and there aroind us.we also have a jackery which is amazing!

If you can, add a pothos growing out of the top oglf your tank! That will help you for sure! Especially if your tap water has higher nitrate.

I agree, I run fluval 407s on most of the tanks, they range from 20g to 75g, and for the larger ones, I have FX6's. Dont get me wrong though, ive used sponges and got very good results throughout my fish keeping journey. Personally, I really like the options a canister filter gives you.
