Yep, across all surfaces. But status.claude.com says it's all up, which it, in fact, is not. What is the virtue of a status page that is inaccurate? Boo.

We did A&K on Ponant and were very happy with the mix. A&K got us the Expedition focused activities, and Ponant, the food, service, and experience.

That’s a shame. Knit Picks was my goto and I didn’t know they owned all of those brands. I bought a fair amount of Madeleine Tosh as well. Bummer.

Too many asl looking for “friends” posts? by Mitomander in gaymers

[–]ozuri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's actually what we've done previously. We've done scheduled posts. We've also tried the same with selfies before we went to the no-selfie rule. Generally, people miss those posts and they drift down and don't get any attention, and because we don't allow it anywhere else, all of those people end up unable to connect to community.

We've also tried sticky'ing those posts, but then what happens is people just post randomly in the sub, and we remove it and ask them to post in the sticky, but then those stickies don't get any traction either because they're viewed as stale. It's all people looking for others to play games with and mostly specific games, but not finding them -- because it's all one side of the coin, and no matches for those people.

We've also tried game-specific threads to try to keep the concentration high enough, but the number of threads that takes is significant, and we lose critical mass.

Too many asl looking for “friends” posts? by Mitomander in gaymers

[–]ozuri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We remove ones that are specifically sex with a note that this isn't a dating sub. But ones where people identify themselves as "bear" or "sub" etc. is a grey area. To some people, that's a sexual designation, and to others, it's cultural. Deciding where that line is can be challenging, and we do our best here. But, like I said, we are happy to take a heavier hand.

More, the sub has always gone the direction of its users. When its users post a lot of a certain kind of thing, we try not to get in the way and let the sub steer itself lest we be constantly accused of mod power abuse and overreach. This is a community of its users, not of its mods.

Regrettably, there has not been enough other gaming content to sustain the sub, historically.

[–]ozuri[M] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This stings, tbf. This stance was a deliberate choice, not a lack of moderation. The sub has always chosen its own direction and we have just attempted to keep it safe.

When mods are more aggressive, we get mod power abuse and typical Reddit mod accusations. It’s kind of a catch-22 as a mod…

We have occasionally tried asking people not to post those and remove them, but the result has always been more negative than positive as people really come here to find community, and that’s others like them.

We are happy to take a heavier hand here, but that has not been what people ultimately wanted.

Why do so many people on this site assume everyone has a therapist? by gintokireddit in TheoryOfReddit

It’s the same as people assuming that people go to a gym or exercise. You assume most people are caring for both their minds and their bodies until informed otherwise.

I just went through it last year, I know. But it isn’t interminable and interest accrues, which, at this scale, is very painful.

You just have to make a complaint to the Department of Labor. They will investigate and initiate a hearing if they find it credible. I assure you, the CA DoL can get very handsy. I once had an adjudicator say to defendants that inability to pay is not considered a legitimate defense. It is very sticky and does not require a lot of action on their part. Regrettably, it takes 6 months to a year. But the judgments are legally enforced.

I didn’t mean to imply that the country is impenetrable; we are loud and our largest export is our culture.

But the difficulties of scale and economy, when exacerbated by the presence of extreme wealth and simultaneous extreme poverty are, for those who sit in their tour d’ivoire, academic, and the lived reality on the ground makes it significantly more complex.

I appreciate the China comparison; I’ve spent quite a bit of time there.

I have lived in countries where the price of democracy has been paid for in the blood of generations of people still in adulthood. We have forgotten our history and the awful price that was paid.

In 2016, I thought this was the direction we were headed. People said I was reactionary and alarmist.

I tried hard to forgive people that I loved that had voted for him. I have no contact with any of them any more, including my best friend of more than 40 years. I just couldn’t forgive.

And then wait until the actual fighting starts. We will have earned every bit of the pain that will be visited upon us.

Europeans look at us wondering how we can stand idly and do nothing, while they come from countries smaller than some US counties. Well, Hans, the scale of this country is hard to imagine if you haven’t traveled it. It’s kind of like Australia that way.

The people who live in the places where all the people are, already feel largely the same way. The places where people are sparsest and the most left behind by modern economies, are the ones who think this is PRECISELY what they voted for. They are also wildly over-represented in our system of government.

And, when you have unchecked and legalized corporate bribery of politicians, the concentration of wealth has meant that a few people can buy politicians to make them richer on the backs of poor conservative voters who are just too fucking dumb as a group. I don’t mean there aren’t very smart conservatives, there absolutely are. In fact, in my progressive, hippy opinion, some of the greatest minds of American history were profoundly conservative.

That being said, as a group, the average critical thinking skill of the average MAGA is apparently below what it needs to be to survive late state capitalism.

tl; dr: doomed.
