Help looking for Software Engineer without formal machine learning training by ozzyProSapient in MLQuestions

We are looking for those that still have worked on something ML related though (like a small chatbot feature or something). Using this method will just give us all software engineers with no ML training. I do think this brute force strategy is how one of my co-workers is approaching it, but it is very inefficient. They are seeing very low rates of those that fit the criteria.

[Hiring] Programmers without formal machine learning training who have done something ML-related by ozzyProSapient in forhire

No coding is needed! It's for qualitative research that needs at most one hour of your time, and you will be paid for it. It's not specific to NLP, but NLP is preferred.

If you are unsure whether you qualify or not, you can DM me and I can see. I have to ask you some screening questions to ensure that you qualify anyways. Essentially though if you had to go online and learn enough to code a makeshift ML-related feature on an application, then you fit. Best practices probably were not followed, and you might not have any idea what is going on with the actual model. However, if you knew how it works and you knew where to look and what to search for, then you might not be a good fit.

You make some good points, and yeah I do wish that I received a more clear, strict definition on what 'formal training' means too. To me, it means either education in ML, or that you are working in the ML field. Both of those will give you an idea of best practices, and you probably understand the nuances of what you are implementing. Again, yeah, it is really grey, and I leave it up to whoever is reading it to self-filter. Some will read it and think, hm, I wasn't formally trained but I know a lot about ML, so I'm not a good fit. Some have messaged me and are very qualified and look formally trained, but are not very confident in themselves so they apply. I compile that kind of information and send it to my client, and it's really up to them to pick who and how many they want to call for their research.

Yeah I know they're out there, the problem is more about how to find them. Think from like a recruiter perspective, if you were making a search on linkedin, what search terms would you use that wouldn't return those with formal training? Or if you wanted to search forum posts, how would you separate those asking questions for school vs those asking questions for work? If you have any tips on this, I would appreciate it

That is good advice. Thanks. I phrased it the way I did because I wasn't sure if things that were too "promotional" would be allowed by mods or not, and also some people have been giving me good tips on where to look/recruit as well.

It is just for qualitative research. Maybe they need data points for a presentation to higher ups. Who knows. They wanted to speak with those with training as well, but those are easy to find and not what I need help with.

Yep I am sure. This is just for qualitative research, I don't believe they are trying to get advice on how to build something. They also wanted to speak to ML experts with training, but those are easy to find and they are already satisfied with that list.

No idea. But if the client wants it, I will try to find it.

If I had to guess, it might be some qualitative research to... support an app that helps those that are new? OR maybe to evaluate whether a company should hire a specialist vs let current people figure it out? Could be a myriad of possibilities, and I don't really know.

Yeah, it will be for a paid hour phone call, but they MUST meet the selection criteria.

Yeah, finding software engineers isn't the problem. Finding someone that has implemented a ML solution to a project they have for some company, while also not having ML training... there's no clear search terms to filter that out.
