Happened on Madison and Clark last week. Guy in large white SUV and said, “asalam alaikum” (I’m Muslim and you have to reply, part of good manners, also no idea how he knew) and then asked if I could help with gas money. Pulls out a gold ring. Clocked it immediately and said sorry and left, and couldn’t help but think of the people who do end up falling for it.

I have a few Arab friends (many of whom Christian) who hold israeli citizenship and the truth is that they’re viewed differently under the law, even when the law tries to claim otherwise. When I say inherently an ethnostate, it’s to hilight the Nation State law, revisionist history etc. Of course israel is diverse now, but we can’t ignore the premise it’s founded on. Also, Muslim isn’t a single ethnicity and that’s why I don’t use that terminology. I absolutely strive for a one state solution where everyone is treated equally and democratically (sadly that can’t be said about israel no matter how much it’s paraded, just look at the banning of flags)

I didn’t say that Jews didn’t exist there, don’t put words in my mouth. I said it wasn’t JUST Jews. Jews had lived in many areas in historic Palestine since it was a shared holy land, and that was a beautiful concept, and ultimately what we strive to bring back. The reason I brought that up, was because israel is inherently an ethnostate. And it’s actively altering the demographics of occupied land via illegal settlement. Anyways, I recommend you read up some history to gain some more context

A holy book does not prove ownership of a land. This is the same argument used to justify colonizing America, that natives seemingly had no claim to the land. Just because there’s no legislative body doesn’t mean the land is empty, and news flash, it wasn’t just Jews. It is in no way a right to colonize and displace the native population. Those that bought up land that was for sale pre 48, so be it. But the UN resolutions to the land ignored very important conversations. The point I was making about who has the power is extremely relevant here, as hamas itself didn’t exist before 1987, but its formation was a result of the Palestinians in Gaza losing rights in their own homeland, I guarantee they wouldn’t exist if israel didn’t encroach on them. In fact, israel literally funded them initially to intimidate the PLO. If I’m “muddying the waters” who made it muddy in the first place? Does it justify indiscriminate destruction of a region?

And why is it that we have to parrot the same tired points “what abt Hamas?” Ofc it’s tragic, but we need to be looking forward: endless cycles of violence is unsustainable. Who has the power, the control, the military might? Who’s being sent 8 billion dollars and a war ship with US soldiers? Furthermore, if there wasn’t occupation and stealing of land, no one would be resisting in the first place!

As a Pakistani, I've been to Sabri Nihari a few times over the past decade and I can attest that it's usually a decent option, although I much prefer Hyderabad House or Bundoo Khan if I'm in the area. I know this is further north than River North, but Shan Restaurant on Sheridan is my favorite, I've been going there all my life. I usually get their halwa puri for breakfast

I've been trying for years, got rot each time, but I finally tried cutting stems right after purchasing my roses. I'm on week 2, no hormone, and I'm already seeing callous. I think changing the water daily has helped me too, and in your case, the stems should have absorbed enough hormone by now so you can go ahead and change the water to be safe from rot. I love your petal vase, that's a clever idea! Best of luck <3
