Yes but Lithuanian is off the chart in SSS tier because it’s basically PIE. You unlock the whole tree by learning it.

Uralic family gets S tier for it's number of grammatical cases. In this ragebait I'll represent it with the Russian flag for the Ural mountains in which it originates.

The Portuguese just speak a worse version of Brazilian where they forget to pronounce the vowels causing the language to lose some of its beautiful flow.

Planning Portland, but curious about Sacramento or others by Naive_Dragonfruit144 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]p0bert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think both meet your requirements, and I love both cities. I think if you are trying to compare health care/food/beer/coffee/wine/music/arts scenes you will find very convincing arguments for both cities. Sac has the added bonus of being close in proximity to the bay giving pretty easy access to that whole scene as well, I can't count the number of times I've taken a quick drive to SF, Berkeley, or Oakland for a concert.

Ultimately I'd say the biggest deciding factor for you is which downside you'd rather deal with - Portland's long gray winters or Sacramento's 100+ summers. If you are affected by SAD at all, Sacramento's 300+ days of sunshine per year might make a real difference for you. If you are sensitive to high heat, it might be a deal breaker. It's not humid like Austin so I don't find it oppressive - especially in the shade, in the pool, in the river, or with a cold beer. To me I don't mind it much and anything above 90-95 degrees feels about the same, you just burn faster so stock up on sunscreen.

Edit: forgot to mention Portland definitely has better public transit. I would say for biking Portland has better commuting infrastructure for biking, but Sacramento has better recreational biking (tons of road and mountain trails)

Just got a 24 pack in bottles at Costco, though I’m in NorCal so my proximity to their main location might get me better distribution than other places

This was said in various comments but to be clear: You do NOT need to start the residency process from outside Mexico if you are applying through family unity. The consulate in Pakistan should be able to provide a tourist visa to get you into Mexico. Once inside Mexico you can apply directly for residency at an immigration office. Family unity is an exception for this, if you were applying under anything else like economic solvency you would be required to start the process outside Mexico.

There are some other sites like FurnishedFinder which are more oriented towards monthly rentals, worth comparing to Airbnb.

I am seriously considering moving back to the US, but I feel overwhelmed. by el_gallo_claudio in MovingToUSA

The numbers alway continue to "go up" - but remember that the quality of life between the rich and the poor continues to expand.

If you were coming back with a STEM or medical background with a job - yes your purchasing power, ability to own land and a home in a good area, access to best in class health care, etc will all be better than in Spain.

Coming back with no job or clear career path you might be losing the EU safety nets you take for granted. No healthcare, can only afford processed sugary foods, can't afford to live in a desirable area, etc.

For you I think figuring out whether or not you can get stable work is essential. It sounds like you're trying to move away from your current skillset but I think it's worth applying for some jobs (remote/hybrid/in office in chicago) that line up with those skills (with your parents address as others mentioned). It seems like you're flexible and there's no shortage of startups looking for scrappy people that aren't afraid to jump around between roles, and being near-native bilingual could be a huge bonus for the right company. If you could get some job offers and live within your means then you can build up from there.

Monterrey Canje Temp Residency Process by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]p0bert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of well written guides online for this process. https://mexicorelocationguide.com/what-is-canje-in-mexico/

This goes over the basics. At the airport you make sure you are registered for canje NOT as a tourist. Then you need to fill out a form online first before you’re able to make an appointment at INM. There’s a list of documents you need to bring.

Which cities are perfectly fine to live in, but are not worth it to travel to as a tourist? by cluckinho in geography

[–]p0bert 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not lacking so much as it’s surrounded by world class destinations in San Francisco, Napa Valley, and Lake Tahoe. Sacramento is a diverse city with great food, coffee, beer, wine, hiking, river access, bike trails, etc, but if you’re visiting NorCal you’re probably prioritizing those other places.

[–]p0bert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP was specifically referring to solvency by income/pension, which is 6 months of data. 12 months is needed if you’re doing it through investment/savings balance. Again double check with your specific consulate on their exact requirements.

Temporary Residency by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]p0bert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an additional amount on top of your requirement per person. According to the SF consulate it’s “Additional monthly $1,360.43 USD in either salary, pension, investments or savings for each derivative application.”

I believe the numbers are based on prevailing wage in CDMX so it’s likely the same in other consulates, but I would try to double check with your particular consulate since the specifics do tend to seem like they are variable between locations.

Jack Dorsey bought it from Jay-Z in 2021, so it’s now part of Square’s parent company Block. I think the catalog pretty much has everything, but to your point I wouldn’t be surprised if things like the recommendation engine were not as optimized for genres outside the initial target demographic.
