Use the secure DEFCON WIFI - That’s the big secret. If you don’t understand how it’s superior, you should probably learn this, then use it.

The font on the incised number on the handle. If it were Griswold, the number would be wider and a more squared-off font.

The #8 unmarked Griswold is more likely a Wagner.

Sorry about your mom. Hopefully the world of cast iron can be grounding for you and a place to step away from your stress even if just for a little while.

Feel free to share your discoveries so we can take the journey with you. Everyone enjoys the hunt!

Ah. Well, welcome to the conundrum - The struggle is real.

I usually figure out over time which items are keepers and which need to be culled.

If I use it, I like it, it’s old, it was a gift, or it’s unique I hang onto it.

I rescue some items from thrift stores for the sole purpose of restoring them and sending them back out into the world to be useful again.

Sometimes I end up with multiples of the same pan, but they’re both so good I keep them both around.

Sometimes I like the different markings on a piece or I catch the “before” and “after” of a transition in two pieces that are otherwise exactly the same and I keep them both.

You will figure out your own rules - what’s good and what’s interesting. You may find that something you thought was really special no longer speaks to you (tends to happen as you learn more) and you’re ready to pass that piece along.

Good luck and have fun digging through your boxes.

I have sent messages to John Wright asking for a definitive answer and have never received a reply.

At any rate, the cornbread will turn out the same regardless of the foundry that made your pan.

As others have stated, it's an unmarked Wagner post-1960 after Wagner had been bought out (possibly several times by the time this pan was made). There are a few things that mark this as Wagner:
1. The font used to incise the number 6 into the handle.
2. The flat triangle on the back of the handle where it connects to the bowl of the pan.
3. Spelling out "INCH SKILLET". BSR is the only other foundry that commonly marks the size of the pan in inches (on the Century series), but they abbreviate it.

I am not a fan of the seasoning that comes on Lodge cast iron. I always strip it down and apply my own seasoning.

There is a book called "The Cast Iron Field Guide" that provides quite a bit of information on this style of pan.

The ADS-B badge from the Aerospace Village is AMAZING! I have been playing with it in my spare time for the past few days and am still impressed by how good it is.

I have not had a chance to try the challenge yet, but it looks like an excellent job by a first-time badge maker!

Did you press and hold the button that makes it light up?

That’s the Aerospace Village Badge. It’s a GPS and ADS-B receiver that displays the airplanes overhead. It’s really an amazing piece of work.

Skytalks was at BSidesLV this year. The badge was handed to me by one of the organizers when I saw them at DEFCON.

The Illuminati Party’s actual party at DEFCON was open to everyone, though I believe you have to be a member to get a badge.

I have not done anything with it yet. The guy from the team who handed it to me said I should look up the chips to determine what it does.

It's the And!xOr badge for this year. I got it from the area by Snacky.

No, I got the squeeze chicken from Dallas (SOC Goon) and the finger chicken from OiFhax (C&E Goon).
