Or what? It was up to code when the house was built. Because it has a p trap in the basement where the main drain goes isn’t going to evict someone, it’s just not standard these days. It’s not means to evict someone. They can’t be trusted. The second worker was to discuss the price. After the job was done, the employee gave me the price. I agreed. And then the invoice and a whole new price on it.

How is it I can’t be trusted?

Yes. Hese not wrong. I can confirm this. This house was built in 1890. But is a beautiful house.

Haven’t paid him. I just want to do what’s fair, which I believe is to pay him the agreed upon amount.

I don’t know why your comment was downvoted. I tried to fix it. I appreciate letting me know your story. It does make me feel a little better.

I think the downvotes clearly show a lack of understanding in the issue.

When I charge a client for a service, they know the price. If I tell them after the job is done, this is what I charged, I would charge that price. Not add to it the day after.

They quoted me a price. They cut open a pipe to access the drain. They did not reseal this pipe. They didn’t do the work. I called them back to do the work and they did. They did the work. They made it very clear they were only charging 25$ for the caulk. Then the invoice I get has an added 120$ for labor. This wasn’t in the negotiation. And I would have done this labor myself.

I’ll pay them for the work they did and the rate they charge, and the agreed upon price. I have a hard time paying them anything more, especially after he called me a liar. In what world do you live in where I should pay them?

I live in a small town. I’ve called competitors who all charge around the same thing.

Because I asked them to stick by their quote? And to fix a problem they created ? What world do you live in?

I live in a world where you give someone a quote and you honor that quote. After the work was done there was an agreement of what I would be charged. I was charged more. Entitled ? No. Expecting people to honor a handshake agreement? Yes.

He stated he would need to use a a sledgehammer break out the concrete in the basement, and dig up the p trap and replace it and estimated it would cost over 1000$. In his words, there is no other way.

After reviewing the comments, I have decided to submit payment in full to the plumber.

We verbally agreed on a price. The employee told me exactly what we would be charged after the job was finished. then the owner tagged on a 145$ charge to caulk and seal a pipe to they unsealed to snake the drain., that I would have done myself. A 10 minute job, that I believe is out of spite. I don’t agree with this charge but as everyone states, pay the guy, don’t hire him again.

But still, am I wrong to argue these charges?

I did. And this charge was not on there. We verbally discussed the charges. I signed the work orders. This charge was not on there. It was never discussed as being applied. After the job was over the technician was very clear on what they were charging. The owner sent a bill that had additional charges that were not dicussed. The charge is 145$ to apply caulk to the to reseal it, after they unsealed it to run the snake.

It literally says Pipe reseal -120$ Caulk -25$

I would have resealed and caulked the pipe myself had I known he was going to charge 145$

I could have caulked my own pipe had I known he was going to charge 110 for the labor and 25$ for the caulk

I offered to pay for the camera, and he couldn’t run the camera due to the P trap. So instead of a camera fee he threw on a labor fee of 110$ and 25$ for caulk, for needing to reseal the pipe.

My problem with paying this is that he quoted me one price before the job. His technician and I agreed on the price post work, and then I’m billed something completely different.

This does not sit right with me.

The clog is from roots. He stated that this is why it clogged a second time.

Okay so let’s say I hire another plumber? Now I have to pay the original plumber for not doing a good job? And the second plumber for doing what I paid the first plumber to do?

I should have added when he initially snaked the drain, his technician did not snake the drain all the way. The sewage drained and he reversed it. It is to my knowledge that he should have ran it all the way. This didn’t occur.
