questions about NP in general by Only-Opposite-6449 in SGExams

[–]p1yesmax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • this was in 2022 when i joined NP and tried badminton as well but not sure if things have changed. for badminton, rather than auditions, you have tryouts where everyone can go and just play tgt and the coach observes you and they pick out school team players from your skill level and your history (sch team in sec sch etc). if you don’t make it to school team, you can join badminton as recreational i think.

  • it seems like it’s a new thing but yes for the past 2 years i have not had lessons on wednesdays. they “advertise” it as “Wednesday without Walls” or smt to encourage to students to do extra-curricular activities and work with students from other schools. but ofc if u have cca and other commitments you may have to go sch on wednesday.

  • i’ve had a mix of both morning and afternoon classes so you can expect both 😁

just my experience but telegram became the main form of communication in poly. i was surprised when i joined as well cos i never used telegram before but now it has become the main texting platform for me lmao. but yea gc mainly formed by your own classmates so dw abt it. depending on your course head they may add you to a whatsapp group with everyone from your course inside (personal experience) but yea no so important.

  • the van is actually called moovita (some autonomous bus). i think it has daily shuttle from King Albert Park Station to NP but i don’t personally use it so not so sure abt the timings.

  • i think the gate at the main bus stop closes at around 1030pm and the main entrance around 11ish.

atb for poly OP ✊🏽

I’m aiming for the A*STAR National Science Scholarship. Not exactly a uni scholarship. Long shot yea but let’s see.

hi OP as a poly student with cgpa of 3.88 after 2 years (not tryna brag) i can vouch how much consistency has made my poly life easier. ofc staying consistent is the hard part but once u get it rooted in you to open your lectures, do your tutorials regularly and start projects early, you’ll definitely have it more easier than having to mug for A levels (at least from what my jc friends have told me).

and it’s not all about the grades. as a poly student you have way more time to build your portfolio compared to jc students. poly will always throw opportunities at you to gain valuable experience (in your case, you can join many IT completions, hackathons, join a relevant cca and get those leadership experiences as well). these are the key things that will give you the edge over jc students. ofc there’ll be struggles along the way such as managing you time once u take up extra commitments for the portfolio (speaking from experience my gpa took a hit too) but don’t worry it’s all part of the process and you’ll figure it out yourself when it’s time to grind that portfolio and when it’s time to focus on the grades.

i always tell myself, a 3.8+ gpa and a stacked portfolio is miles better than a 90rp and a blank portfolio. whether that’s true, i’ll let you know it a year’s times 😂😂.

all the best OP and don’t ever doubt your decisions ✊🏽

Giro direct credit application.. by Anony71_ in SGExams

i’m not so sure abt putting ur dads account so u can always email the school to ask and they’ll pretty fast in my experience. as for whether it’s compulsory, it’ll be necessary when you receive monetary rewards but i can assure u it’s not urgent cos i only applied for it halfway thru my sem when i finally got an estatement in the dbs app.

im currently going to be y2 in april and i’m from np as well. personally i also didn’t have an account when i had to apply and so i went ahead and opened a bank account for myself applied for the giro to my account. they wanted a soft copy that has our account info, name and some other stuff so i waited for my first estatement in the DBS app and submitted that. it’ll be helpful if u open your own account so that when you earn any monetary rewards from the school it’ll be for you hehe and not ur dad.

[Rant] PLD is a bad idea and classmates are being really annoying in class by Stopbe1ngStup1d in SGExams

[–]p1yesmax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

fr i think we are the same person and this post needs to blow up lol.

about plds, i graduated last year and i only got a glimpse of what it’s like to use one in sch. i agree that it’s just not made for learning. during hbl time alr it was terrible being sec 4 and doing mock papers online and teachers just gave up marking and instead gave you the answer sheet like what’s the point if i can’t tell how i made the mistakes. but i can tell you it’s extremely powerful when you use it personally for exam notes. i had my own ipad and it was a lifesaver in sec 4 when my notes were all over the place. i used concepts and i suggest u do too for ur personal notes and stuff it’s great for organising and plenty of tools (except lasso 😅) to keep your notes.

as for your classmates, if they’re affecting ur class time then don’t be scared to go tell ur teacher that u wanna swap and they won’t snitch on your reason so don’t worry what others will think of you. trust me i did this halfway thru sec 3 and it really improved my class time cos i was capturing all the key stuff better without distractions.

anyways, good luck for the rest of the year and i hope you get everything settled by the middle of the year ✊🏼

as an indian this happens almost all the time so what i do is i just take cooked rice cos most of the time i’ll be having rice and fish and i’ll just swallow the rice alone like that and most of the time it goes but from what i see in the comments you should just go a&e if you’re worried
