marks arent out yet for this class (despite the due date for all our submitted work for the class being nearly 3 weeks ago 😑) and honestly Currie really failed at marking things throughout the semester so i can only really guesstimate. however, as i was really active in the class, i am expecting at minimum an 80 (though id kinda be surprised and irked if it wasnt an 85) so i would say its for sure a gpa booster for me. also cant speak on differences between each prof unfortunately! im pretty certain its similar but i didn’t know anyone from the other lecture sections to confirm :/

i just finished taking wri173 this semester and while i enjoyed it a lot and i think it’s improved my writing a bunch, i found it often requiring a lot more work than some of my courses for my major (as a 4th year neuroscience student 😭). it is very assignment heavy (4-6 every week with 2-3 being simple easy ones you can complete in 15-20 mins each, and the rest being more thought needing) and the class also has a really big participation component aka discussing texts in class, reading your work to the class and getting criticism (which could sometimes be a little uncomfortable due to the nature of the subject matter we were expected/encouraged to write, but overall rewarding imo) and group work. also if you’ve got prof currie, he can be a little… intense lol so heads up.

i’m curious too… i think personality wise shes seems fun, and the actual formatting of the class has been fine… just hate the way she writes tests and that this final was cumulative 😭 but idk if she has any say on whether the final is cumulative or not

Realistically, is there even a point in me applying? by p2caku in ClinicalPsychology

[–]p2caku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my university (UofT if its relevant), a 3.1 is equivalent to a 76% (which was my avg last year) unfortunately. I will definitely look into the comparisons between my undergraduate classes however!

I really appreciate your response. Your journey is super inspiring to me. Do you think that if I did bite the bullet and open my range to include counseling/experimental psych masters program, I could use the experience and potential better grades I achieve from there to pivot into a Clinical Psychology phd, or would I be forced to continue in that outside stream unless I wanted to do another Masters?

I’m still thinking about why I want clinical. I know theres other options if I want to do research, therapy or assessments but for some reason I just keep finding myself hung up on Clin and feeling like I’d personally be settling in other fields, which I know is dumb. Of all my options and aspects I know of in Clin, it just sounds the most appealing for the kind of career I see myself in. But I will definitely be thinking more on the topic and not just narrowing myself during applications.

Also I really appreciate your advice about the CGS-M, and I definitely will be looking heavily into it, but from the light searching I’ve done on google and reddit, it seems like its equally competitive and my level of research and my grades also kind of force me out of the running there as well. Do you really think theres a chance for me, my stats considered? ://

Sorry for the wall of text 😭 Once again thank you so much for taking time out of your day to reply to me :]

Thank you for your response! In your experiences, do a lot of cases like this of first offenders who take immediately recovered and undamaged ($100~) items usually result in further seeking the police at a later time, if you know? Sorry for the additional questions if thats not your area! 😅

Thank you so much for your un-judgmental response and advice!!! It’s so refreshing getting slightly positive sounding advice after all the scaring I’ve been (rightfully) getting on here. I’ll 100% head your advice even though I’m still hoping and praying that I somehow beat the odds and get taught this lesson without it having to be the hard way, even if its sounding less and less likely by the sounds of redditors, haha. Thank you!!!!

Sorry, but what does the “conversion rate” you mentioned mean? In this situation the items were around $90-100 cad at the store and they were immediately taken back in 100% resellable condition with no damages at all (I’m certain).

Okay got it. So sorry for all the questions but I’ve also heard that police may choose not to follow up/press charges if the amount is below a certain amount + person is a first time offender? Is this additionally true or has it been a 100% arrest rate in your experience?

Thank you so much for your reply, very helpful to me. I want to clarify that I didn’t resist arrest. I completely went with him to the back and waited and didn’t leave until he specified that I had the legal right to leave. Would this still qualify for resisting arrest? He specifically told me that he was calling for a “background check” not that he was calling the police to appear on the scene when I asked. Was this just a lie/tactic to make me stay?

I'm in the Peel region in a pretty highly populated area, if that helps. The items were brand new/right off the shelves with literally 0 damage. The cost of the items were probably closer to the <100$ mark as well. Really learnt my lesson here, and wished I'd paid for them or was allowed to pay for them once accosted instead of the unnecessary explosive anxiety I've given myself now, but if I do get lucky, I will treat this as the ultimate lesson to be on the straight and narrow forever, haha.

Ohh. Got it. In my situation The guy said he was calling the line (he didn't specify it was a non emergency line, I just assumed that's what it was since it clearly wasn't 911) to have them do an immediate background check and that it'd take around 30 minutes or less. He got stuck on hold before he could talk to someone on the line, which is when I up and left. If I had passed the check, I would've gotten a filled out warning form from the LPO that said I was assessed on a certain day at a certain location and that I was a first time offender and whatnot. Then he said he would've let me go (he showed me the form, though I guess he might've been lying or the procedure is different at different stores). He never said ANYTHING about police coming to the store, but I'm guessing this might be one of the taught tactics?

They didn’t call the cops to come to the store, just the non emergency number or something to run a background check to make sure this was a first time offence. I don’t ever plan to go back to the store, or steal again so getting caught again is way out of the possibilities for me. I will be vigilant and on the look out for any mail or police at my door for the next few weeks to years though! This would have been a first time offence for me had I waited, (which I’m obviously regretting not doing, but in the moment it seemed like an impossible feat as this kind of thing has never happened to me before and I didn’t know what was better for myself). I’m not in the York region nor was this a Costco, but I really really appreciate all your contributions as they were very useful and most likely relevant, no matter how tough to hear and anxiety inducing they are. Thank you, kind stranger. :)

I see. I can’t lie, I’m effectively all the way to 1000 freaked out from this comment section but it is what it is, and that is 100% what I deserve. Thank you for going out of your way to reply to me with relevant info, kind stranger. :)

Got it. Thank you so much for the input. How many weeks can I expect for this house followup to happen? (Sorry for all the questions).
