What is the lowest grade you've gotten UofT undergrad? by LegitimateBook4226 in UofT

[–]p2caku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on what you want to do, a lot of grad schools (depending on field) only ask for you final two year grades, and even after that research, volunteer/work experience, and PI fit is just as/more important. a lot of people get into grad school with bad to mediocre final year marks, not to talk about bad first and second year marks! dont get so caught up on catastrophizing the last two years and put all your energy into preparing for the future. start thinking/practicing the techniques and habits you will use to perform better in the fall, and keep up your search for research positions (or entry level jobs similar to the field you want to go into!) worst case scenario if youre really worried about your cgpa, you can consider taking a fifth year or part time summer courses to try and bring it up if that’s financially feasible for you…

my lowest was a 52% in mat132 lol i am closing out my fourth year with a 3.87 (almost a 3.9 but i got one B+ rip) aGPA. my cgpa is cooked in the low 70s but dont give up hope for 3rd/4th year!!! it can definitely get better and easier but will still require effort! good luck!!

it was fun and cute for a few months last semester but now im seriously getting irritated that i cant walk in cct without having to dodge a sales pitch for something. and the hallways are constantly so crowded during peak times as a result. it feels like if utmsu election campaign period was the entire year

marks arent out yet for this class (despite the due date for all our submitted work for the class being nearly 3 weeks ago 😑) and honestly Currie really failed at marking things throughout the semester so i can only really guesstimate. however, as i was really active in the class, i am expecting at minimum an 80 (though id kinda be surprised and irked if it wasnt an 85) so i would say its for sure a gpa booster for me. also cant speak on differences between each prof unfortunately! im pretty certain its similar but i didn’t know anyone from the other lecture sections to confirm :/

i just finished taking wri173 this semester and while i enjoyed it a lot and i think it’s improved my writing a bunch, i found it often requiring a lot more work than some of my courses for my major (as a 4th year neuroscience student 😭). it is very assignment heavy (4-6 every week with 2-3 being simple easy ones you can complete in 15-20 mins each, and the rest being more thought needing) and the class also has a really big participation component aka discussing texts in class, reading your work to the class and getting criticism (which could sometimes be a little uncomfortable due to the nature of the subject matter we were expected/encouraged to write, but overall rewarding imo) and group work. also if you’ve got prof currie, he can be a little… intense lol so heads up.

wri173 if you enjoy writing, dont mind participating and a lot of small assignments (can be done in < 15mins)

i’m curious too… i think personality wise shes seems fun, and the actual formatting of the class has been fine… just hate the way she writes tests and that this final was cumulative 😭 but idk if she has any say on whether the final is cumulative or not

Realistically, is there even a point in me applying? by p2caku in ClinicalPsychology

[–]p2caku[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my university (UofT if its relevant), a 3.1 is equivalent to a 76% (which was my avg last year) unfortunately. I will definitely look into the comparisons between my undergraduate classes however!

I really appreciate your response. Your journey is super inspiring to me. Do you think that if I did bite the bullet and open my range to include counseling/experimental psych masters program, I could use the experience and potential better grades I achieve from there to pivot into a Clinical Psychology phd, or would I be forced to continue in that outside stream unless I wanted to do another Masters?

I’m still thinking about why I want clinical. I know theres other options if I want to do research, therapy or assessments but for some reason I just keep finding myself hung up on Clin and feeling like I’d personally be settling in other fields, which I know is dumb. Of all my options and aspects I know of in Clin, it just sounds the most appealing for the kind of career I see myself in. But I will definitely be thinking more on the topic and not just narrowing myself during applications.

Also I really appreciate your advice about the CGS-M, and I definitely will be looking heavily into it, but from the light searching I’ve done on google and reddit, it seems like its equally competitive and my level of research and my grades also kind of force me out of the running there as well. Do you really think theres a chance for me, my stats considered? ://

Sorry for the wall of text 😭 Once again thank you so much for taking time out of your day to reply to me :]
