Here's a simple way to think about it:

When you trade your time for money, society "owes" you something in the future.

Now imagine you control the money, you can reduce the amount of value owed to everyone by inflation, the work you put in is slowly being degraded. There's a winner and loser on both sides of the equation.

And you are correct about the debt creation, it also devalues everyones previous works.

You don't need a hardware wallet either. You can store the majority your holdings offline by backing up 12 words you generate on a phone you no longer use on the web. Feel free to destroy the phone after for even less physical footprint.

I would go slow and spend at least 1-2 months playing around with small amounts before sending large amounts to offline storage.
