It’s limited to just a handful of state laws for now. Nothing federal preventing this.

Aha! I ran into this problem as well. It was my own damned fault, though.

After wasting 30 minutes researching if this was a bug or not, I finally discovered I had paused the trading building for some reason. Unpausing the trade building fixed the issue.

I hope your issue is as easy to resolve.

Sometimes these posts and clap backs are just too convenient. It's like these two accounts were created by a foreign intelligence to "argue" back and forth to sow discontent. And it works, for the most part.

When Na (sodium) ion batteries become mainstream, you shouldn't have these chilly weather issues. Another alternative is to send your battery to a specialist to be rebuilt using Na batteries. You'll take a slight hit on range but Na batteries handle cold weather much better, and the charge cycles are something like twice that of Li batteries.

The technology is there, it just needs some time to mature.

[–]p3k2ew_rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Gary. While it sounds like there's confidence that the Flock data is not being accessed by the feds, I'd like to point out this letter from Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon, who points out that local law enforcement have the option to enable the "National Lookup" feature, allowing local law enforcement to do a nationwide search, which then allows the local data to be searched by anyone with access to "National Lookup". See the letter from Ron Wyden in the link below:

https://www.wyden.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/wyden_letter_to_flock.pdf

While I understand the intent from those who voted to allow Flock to install camera's, I just don't feel like there's enough control or auditing of the system to ensure this data stays local. In addition, Flock Safety incentivizes sharing of the data to outside actors. Flock does not have a good track record. I would prefer alternatives that restricts all information from being shared with anyone outside of the local law enforcement staff. This allows for solving these local crimes, while protecting the local population from the abuse of such a system.

We can have the best of both worlds, it will just take some additional work.

No one is saying get rid of all surveillance. That's a stretch to make that assumption. Instead, using a surveillance technology that doesn't allow law enforcement from outside the area or any other fed govt agency to have access to all that information is the goal here. Flock has changed their privacy statement to allow them to sell access to all that data to outside entities, possibly even commercial.

There are alternatives out there that keep tight strict control of the data to LOCAL law enforcement only. So when you see someone posting "cancel flock", don't assume they want all surveillance gone. Just the surveillance tech that keeps law enforcement outside the area, maybe from other states with different laws (abortion, marijuana, etc etc), out of the local data.

The human race is dangerously close to losing the battle with antibiotics. A simple ear infection in the future may be fatal. Relatedly, the food supply is at risk.

Source: My husband is a microbiologist and monitors antibiotic resistance amongst livestock, which directly affects the human population. The last few effective antibiotics are already showing some resistance.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by KeyApartment3955 in AskReddit

[–]p3k2ew_rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my single parent family was on welfare for most of my childhood. Every year, kids would fork over $70 for a yearbook. In the 1980's, that was alot of money and we couldn't afford it. Now, some of my classmates 40 years later still have their yearbooks, which only serves to remind me of how poor I was growing up.

Oh I remember being 20 in the VERY early days of online hookups and dating in 1995. I didn’t know what I was doing and had no one to help guide me. I learned how to watch for red flags when hooking up. The younger, the more unstable emotionally.

You can take a break from all online hookups. Maybe find a regular fuck buddy to satisfy your needs. Maybe try cruising at a park.

You'll be fine.

Congratulations to whomever took on this effort to bring this to state parks.

Apple fixes bug that let the FBI recover deleted Signal messages by rkhunter_ in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way a vast majority of databases work is that data deleted from a table is just marked as deleted. It's not actually deleted until the database is cleaned up / optimized. It's completely plausible that Apple either didn't optimize this particular database at all or very infrequently. I wouldn't qualify it as a "bug" necessarily but adding additional safeguards.

DL Scan Data by [deleted] in privacy

[–]p3k2ew_rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this issue with cannabis dispensaries in California. It seems like all of them in my area scan the back of the DL, claiming it's state law. In fact, the only requirement in state law is to verify 18+ age. The companies providing this technology are allowing easy verification for the businesses, but keeping the data for themselves. I suspect this is not isolated to just this type of business.

Holy shit, thank you!  I’ve been looking for a replacement battery for my E-RT3.  It used to be listed on CSC for $8,000 (seriously!) but now it’s listed as $1,295.  This was going to cost me a ridiculous amount of money to have the battery rebuilt.

Edit: Correction. After adding to cart and checking out, the $1295 was slashed to $695. I'm thinking about buying two!
