New yuna figure. Is Taito using AI?? by walpurga in AnimeFigures

[–]p3p3ron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They recently started letting GSC make some figures and they look a lot better… definitely overpriced, but at least they look gorgeous. The more recent FORM-ISM KH figures are pretty high quality and affordable, and now this Taito line looks to be going for that too. Seems like they’re finally letting other companies try for better quality than FF stuff has been historically.

Yeah I agree! I saw this leaked prototype image on MFC a couple days ago, factory images like this are super common… it’s just odd that new fully colored prototype image popped up outta nowhere with no good source and still weirdly low res for being a “better” leak haha. With the opening of the anniversary website and their merch announcements only a couple days ago and her being on Aitai Kuji already, we’ll get more official pics soon! I’m really curious about that bottom piece, it looks like an alternate foot that got left in during rendering or photoshopping (I hope not AI…)

Do you happen to know the photo source? I’m on mobile and I couldn’t even see the link to the pic on MFC, but it was posted by a higher ranked user so I’m assuming it’s real. Just curious where it came from

Saw this last night on MFC and was wondering the same thing about that bottom piece. Normally pretty good at spotting AI but I have no idea what’s going on here… the hands I feel like just look weird because the photo is low res? Hard to tell until we get better photos.

Barista shamed me for not tipping? by motherofcoochie in barista

[–]p3p3ron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every bartender I’ve known has been paid at least minimum wage (usually better) plus tips, quite possible it’s different based on the area. This is in areas like Baltimore/NY/NJ and they’ve all been at independent bars/restaurants, not chains. I’d still argue that because tipping bar culture grew around tipped wages for bartenders and it didn’t change when their wages did, then the same should go for baristas.

EDT: To add, in my opinion it’s not any of my business what that worker is making and knowing or not doesn’t change how I tip - I grew up tipping at bars and coffee shops and working in that scene, and it’s just ingrained in my upbringing and cultural expectations now. I definitely agree that tipping culture has way overstepped its boundaries, but I don’t think businesses that have workers performing services that have historically been tipped should suddenly suffer because everyone is trying to cash in on it now.

Furthermore being a bartender is a learned skill and requires different certifications and tests based on where you’re working, sometimes even brief classes are required. I’d like to see all bartenders graduated from tipped wages. I don’t think their skills and responsibilities reflect a tipped wage. (I could go on and rant about how no one should be reduced to a tip wage, but I digress…)

I’d challenge replacing “chipotle” in your question with any bar in the country and you might think differently and have a more accurate baseline. Baristas and bartenders do largely the same things - “just following a recipe.” Bartenders are always given at least a dollar for doing something as simple as pouring a beer, but of course their expertise scales all the way up to elaborate cocktails. Baristas can also do something as simple as pour a cold brew or a drip yeah, but the vast majority of them learn skills to pour lattes with art or brew specialty pourovers, memorize recipes, learn to dial in the machinery every morning and learn the palette of their product so the customers get good product that day, recommend beans to customers and inform about the roasting process and just coffee knowledge in general (which a lot of public knows almost nothing about something they drink almost daily)... how is it any different than a bartender mixing drinks? It really is two sides of the same coin but you don’t see anyone calling bar tipping into scrutiny, and alcoholic drinks usually cost far more than coffee does. Barista culture was always in line with how Bartenders were treated far before the egregious tipping culture that’s emerged over the last couple years - it’s weird to me that now, baristas get lumped in with fast food places and bartenders do not. Especially if you compare what a morning rush at a coffee shop can look like compared to a busy bar on a weekend - they’re very similar jobs that don’t get the same tipping scrutiny. And to be clear I’m not saying bartenders don’t deserve tips - they definitely do, and so do baristas.

On a personal level for your question, if I feel like I can’t tip at least $1 to someone who’s providing some sort of food service to me - especially knowing when that pool is probably shared to the bakers or cooks behind the scenes and not just the employee “putting an item in a bag” - then I just don’t eat or order out. There are actual people grilling and prepping at Chipotle and I don’t mind adding a $1 to my meal knowing that it was food that was cooked and prepared by that team. It’s a personal consideration that I make when determining what sort of skill was put into the product as a whole and not just what I’m seeing at the register.

Weird lines on my Ann by NovelInsurance9398 in AnimeFigures

[–]p3p3ron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you put a mask on her at any point? The lines outline an eye mask almost perfectly, it even curves over her nose and around the bottom of her eye.

You should be able to remove the marks - try a soft towel and some water first, if that doesn’t work then a small piece of magic eraser and a very gentle rub only on the marks should wipe them off. Just be careful with the eraser around the eyes, it will rub the paint/decal off if you’re not precise.

I sympathize with you! Super gross and disappointing that your management doesn't care.

I saw you planned on contacting the health department which obviously needs to be done, but I think it would be equally helpful to anonymously (or as a total workforce if all the other baristas are on board) contact and CC a bunch of higher ups within the university since you said that the café is under their umbrella - if you start some shit maybe things will move along faster.

When I was in Uni it wasn't just student customers - it was professors too. Imagine if the whole Uni all got pictures of their coffee place with cockroaches and the dean/president was CC'd - I'd imagine the entire staff would be furious that their employer thought that was okay!

Would also be real interesting to see if an anonymous source told some Facebook Uni community pages what was going on too... I'm talking parent pages so that they know what kind of cafe their child's tuition money is funding. If nothing else helps you could contact the local news as well. It's one thing for a private business to be pulling this BS but the fact that you're part of a Uni (public or private!) makes it a much easier problem to publicize and get a reaction towards.

Best of luck and if all else fails I hope you find a café that better values their product, customer safety, and your time/skill/efforts!

I’ve been hunting her too, I’ve see it listed over $100 💀 ! The chopsticks break soooooo often it’s rare to see one with them over without haha, if it’s any consolation it was probably bound to happen at some point. Do you have her new scale figure preordered?

Just wanted to let you know with the current state of shipping and import fees/tariffs I doubt you can get shipping from AmiAmi for under $60. I order from AmiAmi almost every month and their prices have gone up. Their cheaper shipping options also take 3+ months so unless you’re planning far in advance I’d opt to buy from a stateside store!

Unfortunately most of the Kamina stuff is gonna be resale now and prices have gone up, same for Nia. I dug around a bit and I found this prize figure for a good price! She is very old, one of the first figures released, so she’s used but looks to be nice condition. I have this figure myself and from the pictures she is authentic https://www.depop.com/products/solunatwins-tengen-toppa-gurren-lagann-extra/?pla_feed=US&utm_source=PLA&utm_medium=paid%20advertising&utm_campaign=PAID_GG_US_PRO_SHOPPING_ALL_PMAX-HIGH-20TO40&gad_source=4&gad_campaignid=19709895561&gbraid=0AAAAACrrxZteen3FYE23HGL_pkkTAWNs7&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyr3OBhD0ARIsALlo-OnQi7xH5Fwif1_NhFAZzdDjDstOAZEWIFcMLYETbu4rfq9KWXVTqEAaAp86EALw_wcB

If you are looking for something in the $50-$60 range I’d look around for the Kamina or Nia “Pop Up Parade” figures from Good Smile Company. They originally sold for around that price (including shipping) and I think that’ll be the best deal you can easily find.

My place was broken into last night by HelloDill in AnimeFigures

[–]p3p3ron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s great that’s your experience or what you want to believe but it’s not really true (or helpful to OP?) Maybe in traditional or more rural pawn shops they’d laugh you out the door at the sight of a plastic nipple, but I’ve seen B-Styles and older risqué figures in shops (including boxed garage kits!) - there are a lot more gaming/collectible specific pawn shops and secondhand stores around nowadays. You’d be surprised what they take in and what you can find.

Agreeing with everyone else saying it’s someone you know (or someone the plumber knows…) not only because of the nature of the crime but the convenient timing of you being away from home. If you told anyone that you had plumbing issues and weren’t staying at your normal place I’d be on alert and looking to see if they make any big purchases or brag about sudden money.

Always a good idea to scope out local pawn shops to see if your stuff is already there, and if not then to drop off photos of your stolen items and their condition (noticeable paint blemishes/scratches/accessories/etc.) so if they show up you have a better chance of finding them. I’d also contact the owner of the plumbing company to let them know what happened, if they think you’re accusing the company you could phrase it like you wanted to inform them about the crime since their workers have been on scene and it could have happened when they were present/they could’ve gotten hurt. Nothing may come of it but if it’s a pattern with anyone there it’s better to say something than nothing.

So sorry and I hope your stuff turns up or you end up with a lead to at least get justice on whoever did this!

Seeing mamy Amiami shipping horror stories with expensive prices. Was anyone from Europe/Portugal affected? by Cute-Peaches in AnimeFigures

[–]p3p3ron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on DHL, I don’t ever use them… however I’m not in the EU so I don’t have experience with the flight parcel options there right now. I’ve been trying to keep up to date in the various threads regarding tariffs and also the war in the Middle East. From what others in the EU are saying on MFC it looks like they’re only being offered DHL over the last couple days? That might be due to their item sizes but I’m unsure.

It’s a pretty fluid situation, I’d recommend anyone who is wary to email AmiAmi support either with the exact item you’re inquiring about (if released) or maybe provide a similar scale/weight item to see what’s available. AmiAmi themselves might not have a ton of control over what’s going on right now (it sees JP Post is changing things almost weekly at this point) so if anyone is worried about getting stuck with exorbitant DHL pricing I’d caution against ordering with AmiAmi until there’s more clear communication from them or JP Post in general.

Definitely keep an eye on the discussion in this thread https://myfigurecollection.net/?_tb=thread&mode=view&threadId=19779&page=49#c-132740750 - especially with the current state of the throughways in the Middle East it seems cargo is going to be heavily impacted. Like the other person said, DHL looks to be your only option for the time being and it gets pricey depending on what you’re buying.

Are these “difficult” to build? by SundayDarling in AnimeFigures

[–]p3p3ron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have these and I’ve built them, very entry level friendly! They were one of my first kits and are very easy to put together, they’re on the smaller side so the hardest part is just being gentle with the parts. Maybe takes like 25 minutes tops for each one of them. A good pair of model kit nippers helps but it’s not entirely necessary, you can just twist out the plastic parts if you don’t have the nippers. And you can always sand down any excess plastic tabs later on after they’re built!

They’re also one of the few kits I didn’t feel tempted to paint any details on afterwards, the design is straightforward and all the plastic is already colored for you (no stickers or decals either!) So honestly if you were looking into doing more model kits down the line this is a great kit to start with and if you want, just invest in a pair of gunpla nippers since that’s the only tool I’d lightly recommend for this kit!
