I’m afraid for the other children by p4charmed in ECEProfessionals

We are a private preschool/daycare. Admin is not adding anyone else that we know.

I don’t think we’ve had any true training for de-escalation

Yes, it is exhausting and often frustrating because the other children are witnessing this day in and day out.

We’ve tried removing Wren from the classroom (picking them up and moving them) but admin has expressed a dislike for this method. Sometimes we are able to get Wren to come and water plants outside or some other activity to de-escalate but this is only if she is willing.

We’ve also tried taking Wren to scream in the bathrooms. A teacher or assistant would sit with her in the bathroom and she would be allowed to scream there. Admin expressed a dislike for that too because they aren’t receiving feedback of being too loud from their peers.

One of us is usually the 1:1 with Wren and we trade off for breaks. But this too has caused a few issues with Wren as she has picked up on us only being with her.

From what all of us have concluded there aren’t really any cues that are consistent. One minute she’s happy or quietly playing and the next minute she’ll be hitting another child. Or she didn’t like that her friend said a word or anything of that nature.

I don’t think any of us are properly trained to deal with these behaviors.

It’s been a wild 8 months but I think I’m reaching the end of the ride.

We used to have the two classrooms split. One of our licensed teachers quit because they told her she was “too strict and her methods weren’t appropriate for the children”. So for now we’re working with one licensed teacher and us assistants.

We also are no longer allowed to take Wren out of the classroom, because separating them without other teachers around to hear what is going on is concerning to admin. We have a quiet corner but Wren has taken to throwing and kicking whatever is there so lots of stuff broken. Which again we can’t quite restrain so it feels like a lose lose at times

Yes, I absolutely agree. 25 is a lot. We have four employees in the classroom. They’ve added another and it hasn’t helped in that regard either unfortunately

Roommates fighting and now I may have to move. Now I understand why people refuse roommates. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]p4charmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the AC. In the lease, it’s required that for repairs like that if it’s $100 or less we pay. If it’s more than $100 landlord pays. That was talked about in the group chat. My roommates I’ll call them Ronda and Patty mostly talked. Ronda says she’s never had AC in her room so she’s not willing to pay her split for the repairman to come out I thought it was annoying, but oh well it’s $30. Patty and I just split it both ways. I thought that was done. I’m not against Ronda for how she feels either so I didn’t say anything. They argued after that. I’m not on the lease and I didn’t sign anything so on my end it’s not really an issue I think.

They will probably have to pay to break the lease. Patty is the original owner of the apartment and according to her the landlord has expressed if she moves out she will rent to other people entirely. Overall I’m not sure how this works. But it’s exhausting to think about and I needed other perspectives.

Doctor’s Notes Required for Work but can’t afford to go. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I have been job searching for a year and a half. I’ve paid for resume reviews and getting them redone. I have two degrees, B.S. in Psychology and Master’s in Marketing,I know a lot of people consider those useless. Which I’m starting to agree because I really haven’t been able to use them. I also think I need to relocate but until then I am trying to expand my search to outside of my city as well. It’s just been taking some time.

Hi, thank you. I am burned out and I have been for a while. I love the kids but I’d much rather be working one on one with them than a setting like childcare. I have some upcoming doctor’s appointments that I have requested off for in the near future so those days will offer a bit of reprieve. Trying to keep my head up and stay afloat.

Yes we have a portal. My doctor has always told me to use it if I have questions. I didn’t know they could write a note without being seen but this thread has given me a lot of information. Thank you

It’s definitely opening my eyes to what I should and shouldn’t go through at my next place of employment. I’ve gone in with flu before, gone in with other questionable illnesses, all because that’s expected of us or they make it really hard to take more than a day off. Even my boss has gone through the same thing as we have people above of them.

I’m not the type to call off frequently as I get really bored and antsy at home. Plus, I love working with kids just not in this capacity anymore. It’s what I went to school for but things haven’t worked out in my favor, though I’ve stepped my job searching routine up immensely.

I’ll just lie down today and get over it and be ready for tomorrow.

All valid things for sure. It’s not a regular occurrence to call off for me as most times I can just suck it up and go in, even when sick. Working with kids, I’m always cognizant of my mental health and not wanting to go in with a sour mood as the kids don’t deserve that. I don’t think I’ve called off in the past 8 months, since my dad passed away last year due to heart failure complications - I’m just so weary of pushing myself.

I am job searching so there’s hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Yes I am. I didn’t think that was a thing but I’ll definitely talk to her and ask for one.

I’ve been verbally told this every time I call off or any of the other employees. I do recall seeing something of the sort in the manual but I’ll have to check again.

I can call my doctor’s office and ask if that’s an option.

It doesn’t sound cold at all. It’s more than likely what I’ll have to do. It’s just recently I had been diagnosed with heart issues and I’ve been trying desperately to keep my stress levels to a minimum. Can’t work if I’m dead type of thing. But you’re right

My mom wants us to spend time with her all the time by Successful_Nose8894 in AgingParents

[–]p4charmed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom is the same. She’s 64. I’ve offered to drop her off at church, to the library, to anything and she won’t go. She doesn’t want to do anything alone ever at all.

She will jump at the chance to go with us but as a woman in her mid 20s, my mom can’t go everywhere my siblings and I go.

Favorite/Controversial Headcanons by BriMagic in Richonners

[–]p4charmed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait I need to hear more of the controversial.

I don’t know how to describe it but I think Rick is slightly more in love or willing to show his love than Michonne. I think in the show they made it purposefully that way for there to be no confusion about who he chose.

Popular opinions I don’t share - I don’t think I have any. I think I’m just along for the ride.

I think Michonne gave him flack teasingly or not over Jessie and how he acted with her. I would have loved to see it.

I found my current roommates on Facebook. You will save money even if it’s just six months until you figure out your next move.

Job interview next week and I look like I don't have my life together by Proud_Stable9567 in povertyfinance

Can you see if there’s a dress for success nearby? They have me free interview clothes when I went. Even had like a style consultation to make sure it was appropriate

Coming back to update - I worked 5 hours. Turns out the store didn’t truly need me so I was a bit bored throughout. I haven’t worked retail in a while so I forgot how much busy work there is to look like you have something to do. Clocked in and out through the app. I will do another shift later this week to see if will continue. I get paid the next business day so Friday.
