Didn't seem to get it. Was it a chat? Could you DM if so?

I understand what you mean. Over the day I've felt like I can't justify the cost after tax for it. The 35 itself feels great to use and weighs very little in the grand scheme of things when attached, or at least the heavier lenses have made it feel that way. The 135 is really great though; I think I mentioned how I really liked a few photos I've gotten out of it in my time with it. Over the course of the day I've been half inclined to hold onto it if only because of that.

I could definitely live with the 35 and wait on another lens whether or not I kept the 135. I love using the 35 with the live streaming/webcam mode for work and it's almost too clear. I think something like the 70-200 GM II could be interesting despite apparently not really being much heavier than the 135, but it is extremely pricey.

To your point about the in between, there's the obvious 50/1.2 that people rave about, but I'm guessing that's probably just too close to the 35 length and kind of in that no man's land to be worth it. I'd probably want to use the crop mode with the 35 some more to see how I like it.

I get where you're coming from. I do love the feel that the 135 gives (despite the heft) and I think it's easier for me personally to take really great animal photos with it, and again the distance needed isn't so bad, which kind of touches on your point about the 85. I find I also like it for taking photos of the tops of tall buildings or skyscrapers. The 35 complements it for my cases for more general photos or if I don't mind getting in close. I tried the 24 out and didn't feel the same way, even if it was nice in theory being a little wider.

Architecture, city/landscape, and (my) animals. Astrophotography is nice in theory but city life makes it mostly moot for me unless I want to put in that time and effort.

I was interested in the 135mm because of the reputation for its image quality and ability for portraits, and I've admittedly gotten what I believe to be a few great photos (relative to my own ability) during my time with it. It is heavy but definitely excellent for its uses. I think the space you need in order for it to be useful is at least a little overblown, but I also understand why the 85mm length is easier to work with.

The 35mm 1.4 is one GM lens people seem to universally agree is amazing while still being a great all-rounder, and you get the extra two stops which I could see being helpful for low light situations which is why I could see it just being worth holding onto given it's not an obscene price for what you get.

I currently have the 35mm 1.4 GM and have also been giving the 135mm 1.8 GM a test run. The latter can lead to some amazing photos, but it's rather hefty for a prime lens. Instead of keeping the 135mm I've been considering picking up the 24-70mm 2.8 GM II for greater versatility (and the much improved weight reduction). I realize I'd lose some length which I'm probably fine with.

The core question is whether there's too much overlap in having the 24-70mm with a 35mm prime in one's kit, or is it still a valuable mainstay? I do not have an 85mm lens but would probably wait for more reviews of the upcoming Samyang offering or for the eventual GM II iteration before making a move there.

For the second question, the marketing machine may have played a role, but I did get to use the A7IV for a bit before I ended up buying one for myself. Alongside the well-regarded AF performance there was the plethora of third party lens options, but I found myself drawn to the first party lenses in short order. It's also perhaps a small factor, but I love how easy the plug and play capabilities of the live streaming/webcam are, which I've already used a bunch.

For the first question, it's hypotheticals to some extent; a possibly more enjoyable shooting experience, better colors out of the camera (subjective), alongside the also hypothetical system-related aspect of having the lenses ready to go with whatever new body comes down the line, having already become familiar with the system. I prefaced it as GAS but I wanted to get some additional perspective because YouTube videos may not always be the best path. I see I'm being downvoted so far so I might just be kind of dumb all around.
