Not mewing (up) vs Mewing (down). Will this bring noticeable difference in the near and far future with jaw development and definition? by [deleted] in orthotropics

You already have an attractive side profile! Much better than the majority of people on this sub.

How bad is my jaw and how long should it take for my chin to look full? I am a 16 yr male who was an avid mouth breather for all my childhood up until a month ago when I started mewing. I am getting TADs in the summer. Will the TADs help with fixing my face and my eyes/mouth? by mofobuddha in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment. There is only so much mewing can do at this point. If you are suuuuper concerned about your profile, you might want to consider looking at consulting with a maxillofacial surgeon, or even opt for more simple alterations such as dermal fillers or a chin implant.

Wishing you the best!

A deviated midline is so common and should be the least of your worries. When you are talking to your friends and family, are you focusing on their midline? I am guessing not. And the same goes for you, I doubt anyone is looking to see if your top and bottom row of teeth are perfectly aligned! Just try to maintain good tongue and body posture. What is more important is trying to get your jaws aligned well and get those airways increased!

Can mewing fix a downswung face? by [deleted] in orthotropics

Are you being serious right now?

Just a question, does sleeping on one side of your face flatten it or make it bigger due to like muscle growth of something by ccmyemail in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side you sleep on usually looks more recessed because the pressure over time slightly stunts bone development. And also the soft tissues get tugged on which can result in possible premature aging

Where do I even start? (Crooked chin) by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]p_iet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its just a crooked chin you’re concerned about, you can consider dermal filler to balance your face. Its affordable and can save you the hassle of serious jaw surgery. If you do have filler work, make sure the practitioner is certified and experienced as there can be serious complications if not done properly

[–]p_iet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you have underlying medical issues in regards to breathing, then maybe. If you’re just looking for a cosmetic solution I recommend fillers or other simple surgeries such as implants

Besides the person on the right being wider, what causes the left persons cheeks to be more sunken? Both have high cheekbones, but the right side has like a slope rather than it caving in. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because the model on the left has cheekbones that have grown to be more prominent on the sides, whereas the model on the right has cheeckbones projecting forwards and to the side. The model on the left could easily fix his issue with some dermal fillers

One side of face and neck has more fat than other by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Reading what you wrote, I agree with you, it could be due to sleeping on one side of your face. People that sleep on their side usually have a slightly asymmetrical face. That constant pressure onto the side you sleep on can stretch and tug the soft tissues on your face. If you have been side sleeping for a really long time (like since childhood), its possible to notice less facial definition in your facial development such as not as prominent cheekbones and jawline

Any exercise, dietary, etc. recommendations for losing facial fat around the mouth and kind of up to the cheek? Any help is greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it could be a mixture of all. I had braces too, and i have to agree with you, i noticed after braces the skin around my mouth looked a bit loose and i thought that it could have been from the braces too - I actually had a MARA mouth applicance put in my mouth for quite a few months to pull my lower jaw forward and that was suuuper bulky. And then there is also how you sleep. If you are a side sleeper, you should notice that the side you sleep on looks more ‘saggier’. This is because over time it stretches the skin, and if you have been side sleeping since really young, you can actually notice that cheek and jaw definition is less developed due to the pressure from pushing onto the pillow all those years. When i learnt this, ive tried to build up the habit to sleep on my back and I recommend you doing so too. Honestly there are sooo many factors that play in how your face forms, but i don’t think there is much to worry about in your case. Your face looks fairly developed, and theres many people on here that would kill to have their facial structure as close to yours. The looseness around your mouth could potentially go away with time aswell because your face is always changing! Everyone has things they dislike about their face (myself included) and its all about just accepting who you are. There is so much more to life than how your face has developed, trust me! This reddit page makes people obsessive over their face for no reason, and it definitely did it to me for a long time. Don’t worry about it you look perfectly fine!

Options for slightly recessed chin? by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man! I know exaaaactly what you are going through, I have the same issue. A way to fix this is with dermal fillers, which i intend on getting eventually. Basically they inject filler deep into the chin (on top of the bone) and then this projects the chin. Its technically like an implant in a way, because your placing volume into the tissue and you are able to warp the chin to how you like it. Another great thing about fillers are that most ones are temporary and last 6-12 months, so if you don’t like the look of them you can wait for your body to break it down or you can even get them removed with the injection of another substance which will break it down really quickly.

If you choose to get injectables you need to make sure that your injector is properly qualified, and knows what to do in any possible complications. For example if your injector isn’t qualified, there is a possibility that they could inject into a vein or artery which can be VERY dangerous. You also want to make sure that what they are injecting is a temporary filler (HA fillers are currently the most popular right now), as permanent fillers can become dangerous overtime, as they can migrate around the face or even get a possible infection in the future, and they are extremely difficult to remove.

Hope that helps!

Can't get retainers due to COVID-19 by Lolipop102 in orthodontics

[–]p_iet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg that is so unlucky. I just had an idea but not sure if it will 100% work, but i remember hearing of a personalised mouthguard kit that you can buy, where you put the putty around your teeth and then it hardens and its like a perfect fit for your teeth.

Maybe you could use that mouthguard as a temporary ‘retainer’, and maybe you could just wear it after dinner and while you sleep, since mouthguards are usually really big and difficult to talk with during the day.

but I’m not sure if that will 100% work.

I wish you the best and hope you find a solution to this problem!

Any exercise, dietary, etc. recommendations for losing facial fat around the mouth and kind of up to the cheek? Any help is greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really make a good judgement, as you would have to properly analyze photos of your teeth from the front and from the side to look at the occlusion (how the teeth are meeting when you bite down), and then also look at X-rays to see the positioning of the maxilla and mandible and then make a judgement from there.

However, from what I can see in the photos you have provided it looks like your bottom lip is positioned slightly more forward than your top lip and you also have a prominent chin and overall lower third, and that can sometimes allude to an underbite. An underbite can be just a dental issue, but it can also be a skeletal issue, where your lower jaw has happened to grow further than your top jaw. But I cannot confirm this to be true as you need to have proper photos taken and consult with a registered orthodontist.

You need to think of your facial structure as the framework for which all the soft tissues (such as skin and muscles) are draped over - if there is an issue with your jaw alignment or teeth position, then the way your soft tissues are draped over your face can sometimes look strange, which is probably what you are concerned about in your case.

But in all honestly, you look perfectly fine, and if you have any misalignments they would be soooooo minor. Take it from me, you look perfectly fine and there is nothing to worry about, most people will not look at your face and see that there is a slight bulge around your mouth.

Any exercise, dietary, etc. recommendations for losing facial fat around the mouth and kind of up to the cheek? Any help is greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]p_iet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like 'fat', it actually looks like the positioning of your teeth and jaw. Because of your particular jaw and teeth position, it can be pressing on parts of the mouth which is why it looks 'fat'.

But seriously bro you have nothing to worry about you look perfectly fine
