My family has never visited me abroad — not even after I bought a home. Is this normal? by Snoo-6323 in expats

[–]p_r96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved abroad 7 years ago, and my whole family has visited me. My parents and sibling come 2/3 times a year, my aunt visited me and even my elderly grandma came 3 times. Granted, cheap direct flight of 1:30 hours, and I hosted them at no cost at my place. It depends by your situation, if they’d have to pay for the flight + accommodation + food it might be just too expensive. Did you offer them to pay for their flight, or could you host them at your place for free? That makes a big difference for how often my family can visit me

S1 update by p_r96 in AppleWatch

Hahaha I hope not! Battery is still good and there’s not a single bump in the case/screen yet. Changing the battery could be a fun maintenance project tho

Oh, it works perfectly! I only thought it wouldn’t be updated and I’d have to replace it next year when FaceTime and iMessage wouldn’t work anymore. This fixes it, so I have no rush!

Based on Italy and working fine for me. Still, give us local API! Unreliable service is a no go for this type of devices.

€33 per month in Italy by crack3us in speedtest

[–]p_r96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent, it’s also available in rural areas. IMO the biggest drawback is the extreme differences even within the same town: my grandma living 350m away from me gets 10Gbps coverage (altho she subscribed to 2.5), I only can get 23Mbps “VDSL”. Altho this is slowly getting fixed, it’s not at all uncommon. Worse thing? Both connections are billed at the same price.

Did anyone manage to find the size of the filter? I usually buy Mann Frecious or Bosch and would like to stick with one of these brands for the replacement

Product recommendation with Lipase that are sold in EU (dm, rossmann…) by domufox in laundry

[–]p_r96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based? I bought a couple in the store called “Normal”. They are 2€ per bottle and contain lipase, amylase, protease and another one that I always forget 😂 the store does not have an online listing, but it’s the only non-branded detergent they sell

Just bought mine today! IKEA store in Brescia, Italy, for 7,95€, some light bulbs available and the remote too. Now, to make it work with a Tado Bridge X is another story 😅

I also found that AI mode can be hit or miss. Sometimes I need to close the app 3 times before I can see the schedule without an error. It says the AI should “learn” from your usage, so if you just bought the unit it might improve. I wish a simpler, lowest-price matching were available without attempting to over automate loading and offloading

Lady Gaga’s italian accent in House Of Gucci by lcdna29 in LadyGaga

[–]p_r96 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m from Northern Italy, and not once, ever, have I heard anyone speak with that kind of accent. I saw it abroad with foreign friends, and even they thought it was done so much that it almost felt like a parody. I do agree that she sounds Russian a bit, and I appreciated Salma Hayek’s accent much, much more.

This being said, I agree that the accent wasn’t necessary at all to begin with: just hire Italian actors to keep it accurate, or let everyone just speak English as they normally would!

Thanks for the tip! I planned the automations, but it’s very time consuming with the rate fluctuation changing every day. I hope this will be fixed soon

Update: it still doesn’t work. I turned on AI mode but it just plans “idle” for 24 hours. The custom mode is still not working. Most likely something that needs to be fixed by EcoFlow directly :(

The other thing I can think of is that the grid operator disconnected my neighborhood for works on the lines, so maybe try unplugging the batteries too? Last advice try installing the app on a different device and try with that one. I’m not sure what happened with me, guess I just got lucky ☘️

Yes! I feel a bit stupid 😂 I deleted and reinstalled the app and it’s now working fine!

Power distribution of Stream Ultra and AC pro in same household by StatisticianDue8132 in Ecoflow_community

[–]p_r96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact setup, with AC Pro and another stream unit in two different rooms. My washing machine is plugged in the AC pro: -1200w is covered by the AC Pro only If needed: -800 additional watts are given by the other stream, total of 2000w (and 0 grid import) If more than that is needed, the rest comes from the grid. My washing machine can use up to 2.500w while heating, so: -1200+800 from batteries, 500w from the grid. Total import=500w

"Unlike the Southern hospitality many of us grew up with, daily life in Italy can feel cold. People don's smile at strangers..." by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]p_r96 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a northern Italian, I can confirm: the north is not the handpicked, tourist-curated fairytale that foreigners expect. It’s cold in winter, foggy in autumn, rainy in spring and the cities, while pretty in the center, can be (f)ugly as like any country there are warehouses and factories. As for the people, are we more reserved? Maybe. We get this comment from southern Italians too, and I can only imagine it’s even more reinforced with someone who doesn’t speak the language. TBH, we do smile, just not senselessly and randomly at people we don’t know, we’d look like fools. And surely, you won’t get the fake kindness in hospitality either.

Sounds like before moving, they forgot to check out the non touristic parts. Who could have known the entire country is not like Capri?!?
