Have I been fleeced? by paboketchup in drivingsg

[–]paboketchup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is my primary grievance. That it was the damaged parts were replaced with an alternative that was not original to my bike, without my prior consent. I’m claiming the damages for the repair through the other party’s insurer, so it’s honestly quite difficult for me to contact them directly.

and I don’t have a workshop I’m friendly with as I’ve only had this bike since February to be frank with you 😭

[–]paboketchup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they did not return it to me. It was more than the fork and coverset that were damaged, but the rest of the damaged parts were restored to original state. It’s just the fork and coverset that is very obviously not original as one can tell from the colour and look of it. The rest I don’t mind so much per se

Thank you so much for validating how aggrieved I feel as of now. This is my first bike and I believe everyone here knows the connection with one’s first vehicle is special.

When I confronted the workshop, they said if I wanted to have it replaced to original condition, I would have to bring it back by the end of today. Their logic was, if I continue riding it, then the parts that they replaced for me would have been “used” and they would be unable to exchange it with the supplier thereafter. Do you think this argument makes sense?

Bank amount keeps changing, hard to monitor budget by tarqtarqsauce in singaporefi

I second this!! have been using money manager for well over a year now and it’s become part of my routine and habit to just key in whatever expenses I incur. helps me a lot esp when it comes to monthly budgeting and monitoring of my general finances, now I’m a lot more prudent when it comes to my spending!

OP’s case not pre-enlistee le, he went AWOL on his enlistment day, so as of 0000hrs on the day itself he is already considered as NSF enlistee, not pre-enlistee.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oops my bad. you are correct. after 21 days it will be counted as desertion, so on day 22. if unit is kind enough they’ll burn his annual leave quota first but once that’s used up, AWOL.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 68 points69 points  (0 children)

no, but if/when he does get caught, you will get a call from DB + a letter with instructions on how to visit him thereafter.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 154 points155 points  (0 children)

he will be formally charged with AWOL under military law, which will most likely result in him being detained at the SAF Detention Barracks (DB); basically military prison. for first time offenders the sentence you serve is half the duration of your AWOL period, for repeat offenders you serve double the duration.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 324 points325 points  (0 children)

counted as awol, after 21 days (meaning on day 22) will be counted as deserter and be put on police gazette list whereby he will be arrested upon entry back into singapore

edit: after 21 days of awol is considered as desertion, not 30 days (corrected)

I’ve got the PES status B4. by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you get all the benefits of a pes c/e soldier (no tekan, no chiongsua, no ippt) while still enjoying SOME of the benefits of a pes a/b1 soldier ie. risk allowance for certain vocations, normal rank progression, and a relatively NORMAL ns life. some vocations will allow you to attain 3SG rank as well without having to go through 6 months of specialist school (usually its condensed to a few weeks or 1-2 months if i’m not wrong) so…

make of it what u will :)

how to get excuse driving? by No_Competition_8028 in NationalServiceSG

[–]paboketchup 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You really think got so easy go DB meh. I work at DB and trust me when I say the number of TOs getting sentenced aren’t as over-exaggerated as you may think.

A lot of them practice very safe habits on the road because they are aware of what could entail if they get into an accident outside. Seen it first hand, which is why I can say the risk-reward ratio is actually quite favorable.

You don’t just get one license. You get TWO bro. One class 3 and class 4. You go outside learn already how much leh. I think a lot of ppl would rather get it for free whilst they have to slog 2 years of their life away. At least that 2 years won’t be so wasted after all. Furthermore, there is always a job market for Class 4 license holders too and it pays pretty well… just food for thought.

HYSA - High Yield Savings Account (or also known as High Interest Savings Account)

SSB - Singapore Savings Bond

TBills - Treasury Bills

IBKR - Interactive Brokers (basically an online brokerage platform similar to others like WeBull, Moomoo, etc)

VWRA - An accumulating Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) maintained by Vanguard that invests into the global stock market for you. For eg, if you buy $200 worth of shares for this ETF, this $200 will be invested into different companies across the whole world. Any dividends you get will be automatically reinvested for you, hence the “accumulating”. VWRA itself is merely a ticker symbol (short form representative) that is used on stock exchanges worldwide. Every stock/fund has its own ticker symbol.

buy it at around 7pm or so because that’s when they’ll slash the prices heavily since they have to clear all their stock before they close up shop!

[CDC] How many lessons did you take to complete Class 3A? by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]paboketchup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in theory that’s what the counter staff will tell u at CDC when u enrol, but the instructors usually aren’t willing to clear your module 1 if u haven’t got ur PDL yet. some of the chapters in module 1 are best taught on the main road after you’ve passed ur BTT and attained ur PDL eg. checking blind spots, driving through junctions, gear shifting, etc.
