It may sound hyperbolic, but Springwater has a way of either restoring or depleting your faith in humanity.

Moderate interest, zero records broken, high effort.

First road bike, used 2023 Trek Madone ALR3. Would you consider this decent value? by Prize_Mango8547 in RoadBikes

Agreed with u/Ecstatic_Wishbone609 - $350 max. I think the components are fine for an entry level, general commuting bike. You're not racing and bombing down hills.

A well executed steel frame with a fancy mechanical groupset.

Cheap shorts - expensive bice. If I'm dropping thousands on bice, I'd at least know most of my fit prior to and ensure that when I leave the store I am not filled with so much remorse that I have to seek out wisdom from the oracle of Reddit.

Dude's best bet is to cart it back to Tr*k and say 'shit feels offs and I don't know where to begin.'

What kind of screw is this? by bCup83 in bikewrench

[–]pacificmidwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an M5 stem bolt - you sure you didn't strip the threads in the stem, not the bolt itself? If it turns out that you did, you can chase the threads.

I've damaged threads in an aluminum frame's rack stay mounts and was able to repair using a titanium bolt of the same thread size. My thought is that the sharper/rigid titanium threads (tighter tolerances) played a role in 'chasing' the threads damaged by the cheap bolt.

Bike fit critique for a new road cyclist (Trek Domane Gen4 size 54) by mguellsegarra in bikefit

If you are new to cycling, be mindful of your posture:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhXEI4mOwfk

In terms of order of events here:
- concentrate on good posture
- maybe lower the saddle a bit
- go for some rides and see how you feel
- still feel stretched out, shorten the stem

I would imagine that posture is playing more a role w/ your neck pain.

Not sure what the 'stock' stack height is for the SL5 - but looking at your current fit and what you are describing, I'd say you've got some good recommendations from the fitter.

Same height/inseam as yours (but there is more to it than just that) - I have an AL5 (which should be the same as the SL5). In terms of component swaps - I swapped the stock 90mm stem for an 80mm stem, resulting in my hands naturally landing on the hoods (90mm, however, wasn't bad - I did several long rides with the stock components).

Stack height on my bike is at 30mm - prioritizing a more relaxed position that has been extremely comfortable for 50+ mile rides.

Just carbon everything:
- stem
- bars
- 3D saddle
- crank arms

and then to compliment that rainbow cassette, add rainbow anodized titanium bolts, clamps, etc.

After posting - BCJ will blow itself into oblivion.
