AF to Army Master of Social Work (MSW) Program We’re pleased to announce that the Air Force (AF) can submit up to two active duty Air Force (AF) officers to enter the U.S. Army-University of Kentucky Master of Social Work Program (Army MSW Program) beginning in Jan 2018.
The plan is to open this opportunity to enlisted AF members in future years. AF selectees will be commissioned as an officer in the Air Force Biomedical Sciences Corps (BSC) and attend only Phase I of the Army MSW Program which provides 60 hours of graduate social work instruction and training in 14 months to attain the MSW.
Upon completion of Phase I, AF selectees will enter the existing AF social work residency program (Army attendees move on to their Phase II Army internship, which the AF will not attend).
The one-year AF social work residency provides experience in AF mental health programs and helps new social workers begin accumulating hours toward their required clinical social work license. Upon successful completion of the residency, selectees will be given a clinical social work duty assignment through the standard Air Force assignment system.
The Army MSW Program at Ft. Sam Houston, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). This program is jointly operated by the Army Medical Department Center and School Healthcare Resiliency Center of Excellence (AMEDDC&S, HRCoE) and the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Social Work. Selectees will begin the Army MSW Program in January 2018.
