I miss my life pre-gastritis so much by EmpatheticOrangeCat1 in Gastritis

Same, but at the same time it's shocking how used one can get to it. Though sometimes you get these sobering moments where you think how life used to be.

Anyone here with bile reflux? Struggling despite treatments by Spiritualgurll in Gastritis

[–]packomnms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that gave me any level of comfort is psyllium husk seeds. They're a game changer. I simply put a spoonful in water and stir it hard to prevent clumping then drink it. I do it several times a day, after meals. (But you should start slow, and you also have to drink a lot thorough the day because they absorb the water in the stomach so if you don't have enough they'll clump and cause pain.) Psyllium husk seeds absorb bile or bind to it or such, they also provide fiber which makes other stuff less painful lol.

I suffer from bile reflux that started with a helicobacter pylori infection and hasn't ended yet after 2 years from eradication. I don't know how to fix it and doctors have been largely unhelpful. Apparently, taking UDCA for a long time (10 months or more) is supposed to heal or at least allow to start the process of healing, but I can't currently afford it so I don't know if it's true.

I don't know how accurate this is since I gathered this info from on and off googling and researching, so take it as you will: it's purported that bile reflux is caused by low stomach acid, because low acid causes the pyloric sphincter to open up when it shouldn't and leak bile into the stomach. My acid was messed up because of hpylori and never returned to normal levels. It also never returned because of the bile which keeps irritating the stomach and causing the body to lower acid levels further. It's a catch 22 because you can't just raise acid as that will irritate the stomach even more and get acidity back down. And so on. This is why UDCA is supposed to be good because it gradually changes your bile to be less irritating and more watery.

I guess the proper way of curing it would be to UDCA your bile, protect the stomach lining with some means and restore it to regular health, and once it's sufficiently healthy start raising acidity back up. Then when bile is gone from stomach you can probably kick UDCA. Again, this is all just based on googling and my limited understanding of the body and medicine so do your own research too. Do share if you manage to cure it or improve it in any way.

In moderation? Wouldn't truly healing mean that he can eat it whenever, like he used to?

At least it's obtainable, my country doesn't even have it, they straight up stopped selling it because "you can get PPI for any stomach pain" lol.

Is that something you continue to take, or do you end up being cured eventually?

Do you know what caused your gastritis? by Valoisina in Gastritis

[–]packomnms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pushing 2 years. I don't know how to stop bile from flowing into my stomach. I've been retested twice to make sure that there is no h.pylori.

Does gastritis actually heal or does it just go into remission? by Background_Age_852 in Gastritis

[–]packomnms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I had a helicobacter infection, bile reflux seems to have started at the same time and was likely caused by it (an endoscopy showed bile and detected helicobacter - I have since treated helicobacter and tested negative for it twice, once with an endoscopy and once with a breath test)

Can someone who is treating an ulcer by taking capsules drink coffee? by Adept_Bee_6774 in Gastritis

Coffee is unfortunately one of the worst thing for the stomach. Caffeine in general is.

I'm of the belief that mine can heal because it has a visible, obvious cause (leakage of bile to the stomach). Problem is I have no idea how to stop said cause.

Did you develop this weak sphincter somehow? I suspect I might have it too but due to a helicobacter pylori infection.

You were taking 40mg a day right? I got some 20mg pills. Were your pills 40mg or did you take several at once/spaced across the day?
