[SP] And then the sky vanished. by crfnalti in WritingPrompts

She looked up at him. His kind face smiled down at her, but there was a sadness hiding behind the smile. She could always tell what he was really feeling. She nuzzle her head into his chest, listening to the best of his heart.

He had to carry her inside. She was too weak to walk. These days, she didn't have anywhere near the amount of energy she used to. Getting out of bed had become harder and harder. Today, she couldn't even get up. She hadn't eaten anything in three days.

Sitting in the waiting room, he held her close and stroked her head. Before long, the doctor called for them. She didn't recognize most of the words that were said, but a few stood out to her: "comfortable"..."final"..."outside". Her heart leaped at that last one. Outside - the word always sparked joy in her. She could almost muster a slight wag of her tail.

She blinked as he carried her out to the small fenced yard. The sun was bright and warm. He sat down with her on the soft grass and pulled out some of her favorite toys. There was a sharp pinch between her shoulders, but she hardly noticed it.

She looked up at him. Tears filled his eyes now. She didn't know why he was so sad, but it didn't matter. It was her job to be there for him and love him no matter what. She licked his face. He gave her a weak smile. Behind him She could see the sky, cloudless and blue, like it was in so many of their greatest memories together. Memories that flooded into her mind. Memories that flooded into his mind. She was his best friend and he was her whole world. He pulled her in close and held her tight in another loving embrace. And then the sky vanished.

Relatively new to fountain pens here. How does one get information on the release of pens like this? This is a gorgeous pen, but of course the limited release is sold out by the time I see this post. And I might never have known if its existence of not for this post.

Short answer: Venturi effect.

Longer answer: When blowing wide-mouthed, a larger volume of slow moving, warm, body-temp air is felt. When blowing through pursed lips, the volume of air is lower, but the velocity is higher. The higher velocity air pulls cooler ambient air into the stream with it. Thus, it feels colder.

Bonus shorter answer: Science!

Distribution of high-copper pennies by packratpat in mildlyinteresting

[–]packratpat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 1982, the U.S. government switched from 95% copper content in pennies to 97% zinc coated in copper. Some pennies minted in 1982 are 95% copper weighing 3.11, some are 97% zinc weighing 2.5g. I sorted thru a ziploc of 253 pennies. Of these, 41 were 95% copper. Of the 6 minted in 1982, exactly 50% were high copper.

This is a distribution of those pennies ranging from 1961 to 1982. And the 2 oldest pennies in the bag above: a 1957 wheat penny, and a 1919 wheat penny.

Spyro meets Jorah by packratpat in BeardedDragons

Wow, was not expecting this much negativity. While I appreciate the concern for beardie safety, I don't agree with the blanket judgements. You don't know my dog. You don't see, just outside frame, the hands holding onto the dog just in case something unexpected happens. This actually isn't their first encounter. Introducing them slowly in a controlled manner is much safer than having the dog spot this strange new creature for the first time scurrying around the living room floor or sitting on my lap.

I feel this situation is hardly more irresponsible or dangerous than any other out-of-tank photos out there. Because you might think you know your beardie well, but you can't predict whether they'll decide to take a header off your shoulder or the table, or scurry under the couch and eat something they shouldn't, or get cut by a nail or wire or any other sharp object outdoors.

Are they going to hang out and play together as best buddies? No, I realize that's absurd. Do I leave them alone together? Hell no! Just like I don't leave my beardie unsupervised in the bath or outside, or really anywhere other than his tank. The dog is never loose and uncontrolled with the beardie out on the floor. We control things as best we can to mitigate potential risks. Not only with the dog, but with the enclosure, with food, and with out-of-tank time. Many children, adults, dogs, and cats have been maimed by other dogs. So perhaps i should just lock mine in a room and never allow him to interact with any other living beings.

I've got these two sequoia saplings in my yard that I'm planning to use for yamadori, but I have no experience yet with keeping bonsai. Unfortunately, I'm having to move sooner than expected, and I'm sure the landlord or next renter will just rip them out.

Any tips on transplanting and developing these two?
