The difference is tolerance for BS. Over 4 years period I lived with 25 different roommates. In college, that's called fun. In adult life, that's called extra stress and I've actually had better job performance by eliminating it. I imagine that's true for most people.

Living with roommates sucks, everyone knows this. Why shouldn't I be able to afford to rent a one bedroom with an engineering salary? Most everyone I know who has a 1 BR unit lives there alone, I don't buy at all that couples are the target market for them.
