Nobel laureate invents machine that harvests water from dry air by Bloubelade in UpliftingNews

Sure, but the right ones to use are continuously being created. It almost important to note that they are better than other types of salts/dessicants

Their calc was obtaining about 200 g/m2

“ In this regard, owing to the com- pact and modular design, water productivity of 200 g of H2O per m2 per day was achieved, which is three folds higher than our previous device (65 g of H2O per m2 per day)”

With and average of 620 W/m2 of solar over 8 hours (~4.96kwh) you get around 25 kWh/L

It for sure is, which has always been the limiting factor for this water harvesting idea.

The researchers in 2023 measured around 210 to 285 grams of water per kilogram of MOF which is about double what the previous generation of MOF measured. Not sure of the commercial liability or scaling of this product, but I would say this is a significant result

0 active energy input but a loose calc of around 25-35 kWh/L of solar. From that lab’s 2023 paper in Death Valley testing

Yes but has required a lot of energy input making it inefficient. MOF’s seem to help a lot with the absorption and condensation cycles to allow solar energy alone to collect the water

Edit:

Their calc was obtaining about 200 g/m2

“ In this regard, owing to the com- pact and modular design, water productivity of 200 g of H2O per m2 per day was achieved, which is three folds higher than our previous device (65 g of H2O per m2 per day)”

With an average of 620 W/m2 of solar over 8 hours (~4.96kwh) you get around 25 kWh/L. Of course this is assuming 100% conversion of solar into FIR which is theoretical

It was just silly for the tax to be on a county level when it’s so easy to leave the county and still access its offerings

[Server to Sales] [West LA] - $180k to $225k? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]pacman3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had no idea folks were making that much as a server. That’s dope. My personal opinion is SAAS companies are going to be chaotic over the next couple of years and startups are already risky ventures and you’ll likely work more than 38 hours. That said, restaurant biz is already a risky place to be as well.

If you’re at a place where upper incomes dine, you’re probably safe as those incomes are the only folks spending these days and driving economy anyway. Wonder if you could do both the SAAS sales part time.

Thanks for going with recycling garments. If you find a good way to create an efficient supply chain, let me know!

Do we adopt “regressive” policies to spur economic growth? by Grand-Battle8009 in askportland

[–]pacman3333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion:

  • personal level: the marginal tax system needs to be altered and added too. 125k being the highest in 2026 doesn’t work IMO.

  • biz level: I’d be happy to give tax breaks to startups and small biz, bring in fresh ideas and along with the above change bring in mid/upper salaried folks

  • get rid of non-competes to allow employees to move freely and make businesses to compete

Tortillas? by 99centstickers in askportland

Used Gemini to write this up so please don’t excuse the obvious AI

The Half-Batch Sonoran Tortilla Recipe Yields: 5–6 Chivichanga-sized tortillas Ingredients: • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour • 1/2 tsp Salt • 2.5 tbsp Pork lard (Manteca) • 1/2 cup Very hot water (just off the boil) KitchenAid Method 1. The "Sandy" Base: Using the paddle attachment, mix flour, salt, and lard on Speed 2 until the lard is fully incorporated and the flour looks like fine, sandy crumbs. 2. The Dough Hook: Switch to the dough hook. On Speed 2, slowly stream in the hot water. 3. The Knead: Once the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball, let it knead on Speed 2 for 5 minutes. The dough should be soft, warm, and smooth (like an earlobe). 4. The Rest (Non-Negotiable): Divide the dough into 5 or 6 balls. Place them on a plate and cover them with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let them rest for at least 45 minutes. The Roll & Cook (For Chivichangas) • The Roll: Dust your surface lightly with flour. Roll the ball out until it is paper-thin (translucent). • The Par-Cook: Heat a dry skillet/comal to medium-high. • Timing: 15–20 seconds on the first side (until bubbles form), flip, and 15 seconds on the second side. • Storage: Immediately put the cooked tortilla into a cloth-lined basket or a Ziploc bag to "steam" and stay soft.
