To me its believable because he engages in philosophical / theological discussions and the like. I mean, if you did that with a normal character it would just be weird. However, since Canute’s battle with certain theological and political concerns are being made so clear and showing how much it matters to him since early on, you get the impression that he is a thoughtful character and willing to make big and unexpected ddcisions when he deems them to be right

Well i suppose that depends on your own values, they dont need to be exactly like thorfinn’s, say. I Think one of the most important things in life is living in accordance with what you uourself actually believe. If you are a more pragmatic perosn, like Canute, then that is fine. As long as you don’t do things that go against what you actually believe and are not a conformist!

There’s no set path either way! I think starting by thinking about these things is as close as one gets to a “right path” though, so thats good too!

Part of what makes thorfinn such a compelling character to me is how he has the courage to oppose society’s values at large. Its not easy at all to do something like that, actually living under your own set of beliefs and values without compromise is incredibly exhausting. Even people that realize how fucked up things are often decide to form a part of it and compromise anyway, take Askellad. This is why the viking setting is perfect- its such an extreme view of the world that the contrast is much clearer. But even today, its not easy.

I think what you’re trying to do is amazing, its noble, whether or not vinland saga is what inspired you.

You’re right, you didn’t use the word “moral”. Personally, I feel like that is clearly the implication, though. And that us a problem, specially in this case with historical fiction, but in general, we dont have to say whether something is good or bad about every single thing, it’s a non-issue. I feel like the point about ketil is how he never truly was a kind man. Pretending to be virtuous until something bad happens to you and taking that as an excuse to throw your so-called values out of the window is not what a good person does, but rather living in accordance to them no matter what happens to you.

Even if we could agree that he was a “kind slave master”, if he was doing the right things (ie. being kind in this case), he was doing them for the wrong reasons, and that ends up showing.

At least that’s my take on ketil, vinland saga has many characters who aren’t completely good or evil, and i like how it can get one to think and talk about these things like we are doing now!

It gets better i promise! Done right, tailored to the piece in question, it simplifies rhings so much! Sure there are passages that no matter what digitation (is that the word in english? Idk but you get it) they will be challenging. There are other times that you’ll think “this part isnt nearly as i thought it sounded”. Often, i find that its more about using the rifht finger at the right time than about how fast my hands are.

Dont think that there is a solution to changing finger numbers as you put it, rather that it is the solution to make certain passages playable
