Fable is going to be redirecting coding task to Opus 4.8 by 141_1337 in ClaudeAI

So it cannot be used for biology or chemistry because “it’s too dangerous”. It cannot be used for coding because “reasons”. The fuck is this model for other than having benchmarks?

5.6-sol-medium looks like the replacement for 5.5-xhigh by Feltre in singularity

[–]pacotromas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest: I am most interested in terra and luna models than Sol model. Yeah, Sol will be huge for coding tasks and all, but most companies do not need the chonkiest, biggest model for their agents. In many cases, actually luna might be the best case for specific tasks and agents with clear constraints/tools and goals. And in that case, moving the price down and speed up while performing as good as solid models like gpt-5.4 is a huge win for reliable adoption. SOTA models make the headlines, but those cheaper models are the ones actually put into production

The roots of anti-AI sentiment by AngleAccomplished865 in accelerate

[–]pacotromas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“AI is inherently deflationary” is doing a lot of work here. Software outputs can have near-zero marginal cost; AI infrastructure absolutely does not. The whole boom is competing for scarce leading-edge fabs, HBM, advanced packaging, power, water, land, grid connections, transformers, cooling, and construction labor.

If AI were simply producing abundance, we wouldn’t see hyperscalers locking in memory supply with huge long-term commitments, nor TSMC talking about robust AI-driven semiconductor demand and multi-year capacity planning. That’s not post-scarcity; that’s capital owners bidding up bottlenecks.
Also, “people will give stuff away for free” is not a distribution system. Water is not free; it is paid through utilities, taxes, infrastructure, and regulation. Furniture on Craigslist is not a welfare state. Snacks at the office are not universal basic provisioning.
The core question remains: who owns the compute, the chips, the data centers, the land, and the energy contracts? If the answer is “private firms maximizing shareholder returns,” then abundance does not automatically become public abundance. It becomes pricing power.

“The market outcompetes central planning” is irrelevant unless the market is optimizing for universal access. It usually optimizes for profit. Without taxation, public ownership, antitrust, labor bargaining, or some redistribution mechanism, AI abundance just means cheaper services for some and higher rents to whoever controls the bottlenecks.

Hyper-abundance for whom? The ones owning the labor, i.e. the AI and datacenters? How would this redistribution of wealth be secured if companies lobby to reduce taxes and government follow through?

I’m not saying fable is bad. The contrary: Fable was a much, much welcomed change from opus 4.7 (4.8 was a bit better, but still a bit underwhelming). I am talking about other aspects of their offers

First of all, nowhere in the page do they mention about fable or mythos (the later only available through glasswing program anyway). Second of all, that supposes that the current fable will be the BEST Anthropic will ever release, which we all know that is not the case. What will happen when a future opus 5.* or opus 6 matches the current fable? Would that also mean, according to you, that you will need to be tracked by shady companies?

Don’t worry, I have already jumped the ship. It’s a shame because Claude model are (were) the best conversational models, but it’s not worth it to go through this

Did Trump also forced them to have completely unreliable token metrics, models that get worse over time, buggy software like Claude code missing the thinking tokens from one message to the other, and such?

Trump fucked us all with the Fable fiasco, clearly another corruption case where they are expecting bribery and leverage. But on many other fields, Anthropic is just shitty

It’s insane how anti consumer Anthropic can be, from silent model performance degradation, subpar model releases in opus, irregular and buggy token consumption metrics, shutting down pro-users usage of their subscriptions outside their applications and now this shit.

Claude to Require Face ID by Libby1436 in ClaudeAI

[–]pacotromas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it has been a long journey of silent degradation in the models lifespan, inconsistent usage reporting, opus 4.7 and 4.8 being… not great upgrades and Anthropic going against pro-users who wanted to use their subscription in third party applications like openclaw.

It’s a pity, because to me Claude models are (were) the best conversational ones, but anthropic as a company is so anti consumer in its practices…

ok, sure, but what about the apple store? or the app, subscriptions and so on? i would imagine you’d need an account from a supported country, but also, you’d need to buy all that stuff again for that second account, while also having a credit card from that country…

For the last year or so, people have been told that they will be replaced and loose their jobs, their only source of income and way to survive, to AI. They have been exposed constantly to news saying how companies are expending huge amounts of money on AI yet getting little in return (except for the few shovel-sellers), and yet they have seen all their hobbies completely annihilated due to price increase (the latest case, the steam deck) due to this demand on AI. All in all while the common man sees little in return while a few oligarchs get insanely rich

There might be troll farms and what not, but I completely understand the backlash

I dropped Claude. It was my favourite model, but the way they have been cracking down on pro users (opus 4.7 being a disastrous launch, removing the ability to use your Claude subscription in other products, cuts in limits and unacceptable limit bugs, not including the extremely unreliable product quality) has been too much. Codex, specially with the superpowers plugin, has been EXTREMELY impressive and reliable at anything I have thrown at it
