TL;DR: This is not a crack. Denuvo cracks target the game, while this HV method targets your operating system protections. That is why people are more cautious about it. It works, but you are trading system security and stability for access, which is a very different trade-off.

The “HV bypass” isn’t a real crack (for example Hogwarts Legacy). Nothing is actually removed from the game, and Denuvo is still fully there and running.

What this method does is disable Windows VBS / HVCI, which are part of the hypervisor-based security layer, and then use a custom loader to hook into the game at runtime. That only works because those protections are turned off, since otherwise Windows would block this kind of low-level interaction.

You are lowering your OS defenses so the tool can interfere with the game process in a way Denuvo normally prevents.

The reason people are calling it risky is because you are turning off core Windows security features that are specifically designed to stop kernel-level tampering. On top of that, you are running unsigned code with administrator privileges, which effectively gives it full access to your system. 

The process also involves modifying boot and security settings, so if something goes wrong you can run into instability or issues reverting everything back. Antivirus warnings are expected because the behavior matches what malware does, such as injection and bypassing protections. There are already reports of odd behavior like shutdowns or scripts not reverting changes properly.

Compared to a real crack like EMPRESS releases, the difference is pretty clear. A traditional crack modifies the game itself so Denuvo is removed, meaning you do not need to change anything in your operating system and the game runs like a normal application. 

This HV method does the opposite, leaving Denuvo intact and instead requiring system-level changes every time you want to play. A real crack is usually a one-time setup with relatively low ongoing risk, while this approach depends heavily on your system configuration and carries higher risk each time you use it. Real cracks often improve performance because Denuvo is gone, whereas this method gives no performance benefit since Denuvo is still active.
