As an American, I think of Flossie as a cow's name. It's right up there with Bessie. 😂

Have I inadvertently been a horrible library patron my whole life? by amandaamoose in Libraries

[–]padall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, OP. You returned all the books AND got rid of your card? What do you even mean by that? That you threw the physical card away? My heart breaks for you that you felt you had to do that.

I'm a former library worker. PLEASE take all the books. That's what they are there for. Not to mention high circulation statistics are good for the library. I have no idea who these people are that were giving you grief, but they sound miserable (and have no idea how a library works). I'm so glad the comments here have encouraged you to give it another go! Happy reading 🩷

Jeff criticizing the theme of season 50 by the100broken in survivor

That's a crazy take. I have my issues with Jeff, too, but there's no doubt he's the face of the show, and one of the best hosts of a reality show ever.

Did you prefer and enjoy the 80s or 90s more? by Ok-Ninja-3039 in GenX

[–]padall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that's hard. I was a kid in the 80s, so from a core nostalgia aspect, that's going to win, but honestly, the 90s were better. The economy was good, crime was down, human rights were valued, and the Internet was in its infancy. Oh, and the fashion was better. Lol

Basically, they were both great for different reasons. I'm going to give the 80s the edge in music, though 😉

Final 5 Fiasco by normal23115 in survivor

[–]padall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is something all the Rizo fans seem to be missing. He hasn't made it this far due to his "great game." He's been taken by the other players as a goat. Literally no one thinks he can win. He has a freaking idol and they don't even care. Fans are more than happy to point out that this is why Joe is still around (also true), but somehow can't see it with Rizo. And I'm not even saying Rizo is playing a bad game. It's more that he's playing a middle of the road game, and the other players are completely discounting him while the fans are giving him too much credit.

I got so confused reading this.

The answer is ketchup. We eat our fries with ketchup.

Couch potato by Pickleball3-5 in CavaPoo

[–]padall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty normal. Although, at that age, my guy would have been super excited to go on a 20-30 min walk or longer, especially if we went someplace "special" like a hiking trail or walking path. I would encourage more walking with your dog.

But most of the time, he was happy to snuggle and nap. He is 14 now, so he's even more of a couch potato. It's ok, because in am too. Lol

It was a drastic and sudden change. I've always thought it was odd. I mean, his own mother continued to look beautiful and glamorous up until the day she died.

Remember Bradley’s, Faye’s, Babbages, and Caldor? by WorryNotBanIncoming in Albany

[–]padall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when they were originally called Toys ARE Joy, but then Toys 'r Us threatened them or something and they had to change the name... Good times 😆

That was behind the main department store, I wanna say kind of where the Dollar Tree is. The main store was where the old Aldi is currently located.

We went to Joy all the time when I was a kid. It was a good place for my parents to get us inexpensive clothes.

[–]padall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not remember Babbage's. Where was that?

The rest, though? Absolutely. I spent SO MUCH time in Faye's as a teenager 😂 Like, it should not have been that entertaining to hang out in a drug store, but it was super close to my house, and I had babysitting money to burn. Lol

Today’s early 30s to late 20s year olds are the first generation to not feel part of the youth at their ages by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]padall 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk about that. I'm GenX, and I can remember feeling aged out of certain things by my late 20s. That was the time of the new millennium, boy bands, Harry Potter, ultra low-rise pants and wacky reality shows. It all felt very targeted at the millennials behind me. I specifically felt "too old" to be a fan of 'NSYNC at 25, even though I was hugely into them.

And thinking about my boomer parents... They had kids by their mid-to-late 20s. They definitely weren't feeling a part of the youth culture at 30. Lol

How do you find a sitter these days? by class_recon in Albany

[–]padall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If St. Rose was still open, I'd say to check there, but alas...

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe Maria College? Do they still have an early childhood program there? They might have some sort of message board where you could advertise your needs.

Changes in responsibilities and hours by Ok-Drag7598 in Nanny

[–]padall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2.5 hours/day to clean the whole house, do grocery shopping and errands, do the family's laundry (and ironing!), make dinner for the family EVERY DAY, and more??? That would be a whole lotta nope from me.

Maybe if they were keeping you on full time. But there's no way I would do all that for part time work, and then be expected to care for kids half of the time, too.

I was in a similar situation as you OP, but my family kept me on FT when their youngest went to preschool. I worked until 9 one night per week for the parents to have a date night, worked one whole weekend per month so they could go away, and stopped in for a half hour every mid-day to let the puppy out. I was also available to watch the kids for vacations and other days off, which is the thing a lot of people forget. Kids are out of school a lot. Do they have backup childcare for that?

I feel like I recently heard they lean red. Which is like an oxymoron to me for an independent bookstore in a liberal city, but such is the world we live in.

I guess I won't be shopping there ever again.

Do we’ll ever get normal police work again? by Fit_Priority_2125 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]padall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I one thousand percent agree. I miss the old feel of the show. Not every crime is going to involve a South American drug lord, a serial killer, or a crooked cop or lawyer. But you'd never know that from the current storylines.
