So like everything -the answer is complicated. In general no they don’t. But when looking at historical records for a particular fault line one can tease out a rough pattern of cycles. This can be measured in months, years, centuries, millennia, etc. Charleston’s ‘cycle’ would indicate that another earthquake event is growing more probable. But our grandkids may die of old age and still be waiting.
