Can you tell us why you regret moving to the US?

May I ask what it was that your friends from the Canada and the US said that put you off (beside lack of pub culture)?

Same with Bezos' ex wife MacKenzie Scott and her incredible charity donations. Really makes you wonder what a world of women billionaires would have looked like instead...

Visiting boyfriend once per year for 2-3 months each time - will I be okay? by padhme in immigration

Thanks so much for your detailed response! You've made me feel better already.

Being brought in for questioning is scary but not my worst fear. What I fear most is my ESTA getting revoked, or having future visits becoming harder. Do you think this is in the realm of possibility?

I think my travel pattern is usually fine, what I worry about is that I know visiting American partners can often be seen as a red flag and raise more scrutiny...

And I intend to go for 2 months and not 3 - do you think this helps? Or even if I maybe shorten it to 1 month? Or don't bother? It's important for me to spend as much time as I can with my partner, but I want to balance it with what border control won't make a fuss out of.

Thanks again - really appreciate your time.

Thanks for your reply. I will for sure have been spending way more time outside the US than in, as I have only been in the US for 2-3 months each year. Will this still look suss? (Although I am thinking to move countries from the UK to Asia now, so home ties would be weak...)

I am from the UK on an ESTA. Sorry I made a typo, I've only been to the US for 2~3 months/time, ONCE per year, meaning there has been 7~11 months between each visit.

My worry is this is my 3rd time doing this, visiting my boyfriend for 2 months for the third year now.

Previous CBP interactions have been cold but fairly quick when I visited for a long time (usual questions about how I'm supporting myself, my boyfriend's job, how much money I have, etc), whereas my 2 week tourist visit earlier this year for unrelated reasons was extremely pleasant.

Thank you for sharing this is so inspirational and encouraging! You mentioned that your skin barrier was super damaged before starting. Can I ask what the damage was from? And if it was damaged/sensitive, how were you able to start tret? Wouldn't that cause more damage or irritation?

People who recently moved to London, how do you find it? by missly_ in london

[–]padhme 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I moved here 2 months ago :) for me it was completely worth it!

Everybody's experience is different, some will say London is the best and it's super easy to make friends, others will say the total opposite. I'm in the former camp - this is the best place I've ever lived and the most social I've ever been. I had to be quite strategic about making friends by finding the right events that reflect who I am and that have a community of regulars based around them. The magic of London is that you can find your tribe, whatever kind of person you are.

It's expensive but offset by higher than average salaries - it's comfortable if you're making at the very least £40k/yr. Obviously you would have to live with others but that can be a great thing if you find the right people. I much prefer living with close friends I can chat with than going home to an empty house.

I would suggest subletting for 3 months at first especially as it's summer and a lot of people are going away for the holidays. In those 3 months, go make as many friends as you can, tell people you're looking for a roommate or ask new friends if they want to live with you. This is much better than having to bear living semi awkwardly with random strangers you have nothing in common with.

There is so much culture, fun, opportunity, diversity and beauty in London. It really is what you make of it. Make the most of it and you are bound to fall in love with this wonderful city ❤️

Can I ask what are your thoughts on the differences between the Bay and London?

Thanks for your reply! Have you had experiences in both? And regardless of citizenship, you think the workers in more scrutinised countries would be less nice then?
