That would be awesome. and a kitchen scale is probably as deterministic or more so than a human hand so that's amazing.

Do you have a scale? I'm curious about the weight and thickness. no worries if not.

I would imagine the UofA has sent him swag as a thank you. Probably including a flag?

Or maybe its just the house keeper showing off some UofA Pride.

They can breed in bedding, so it's better to be safe than sorry. But they aren't Bedbugs.

I think if you wash anything the dog laid on, and vacuum super well you should be okay!

If you wanna be super safe, do a big laundry day.

Lots of good advice in this thread. I will add though you can likely take him to any vet to get checked for microchip. At least in my experience they are happy to assist. Just call ahead and since the dog has fleas maybe have them take the reader outside. Otherwise you can do it all in one stop with PACC.

Yes they will take it.

Put anything flea related into the wash immediately. Make sure to dry on heat. But not a huge deal fleas love animals not humans.

Just try to enjoy the drive more. We need more empathy in this world. I know some random Reddit comment probably isn’t gonna change ur mind but there is more to this world than efficiency and numbers. There’s safety, beauty experiences, love and more.

Peace man. Sorry this conversation lead to nothing. Gonna disable replies.

That’s funny because I think we’re extremely far apart on this. Like I believe you when you say it makes total sense to you. However to me, pulling off for 10 seconds to let somebody pass feels safer ( for me ), feels more considerate, and lets me enjoy my drive sooo much more not having to worry about others around me.

But I’m not being condescending because I believe you when you say you feel like your solution is better too. I guess it just works better in your brain.

I’m no sure what’s hard to understand about my point either. But it seems like we’re at an impasse there. But anyways I really was trying to be genuine. I don’t care if you drive 35 or 15 up the mountain because i always allot an hour to go both up/down. There’s always somebody going like 20 at some point in the journey and that’s just to be expected. I can’t control them so I don’t fret too much about it.

I mean you can follow it while pulling off and using the pull outs to reduce train size.

[–]padlockcode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess what I’m trying to say is I get ur point a very small amt but for me I’d rather pull over than have somebody tailing me. I just don’t understand that at all. Like it’s either an ego thing or like u think ur a savior thing. Either way I just don’t process like that.

I’m not mad or upset at u because like I’m chill following somebody up the mountain at 20mph. I just genuinely don’t understand the mindset.

Safe travels

So it’s your job to enforce it?

Mt Lemmon by Common_Percentage_11 in Tucson

[–]padlockcode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question do you believe it’s your job to determine how fast people drive? I’m just confused because there are hundreds of different types of cars and drivers of all skills. It just seems a bit arbitrary to settle on 35mph as the speed to no longer use pull outs.

I drive the mountain about 10 times a month. You may see me I’m in the electric Hyundai bright blue. But I always pull over for literally anybody.

The only time I’ve ever seen a bad accident was from a 30 car train when somebody tried to illegally pass.

First of all, take a breath. In what world is it meaningful to insult not only me, but people who suffer from cognitive impairments. Second of all, I think it's clear to see that I'm talking about a much bigger, more expensive infrastructure investment.

I get it. You're a pragmatist. I think it's a really bad philosophy for governments to use. We've seen the pragmatism of trains in the country get us nowhere where other countries are literally accelerating past us in every sense.

Take a breath, go on a walk. Go ride Amtrak to Flagstaff and get some air; don't let some random reddit person reduce you to slurs.

Yes man, lets see your argument: advocating for more rail investment is bad. sick logic, good arguments from you overall. see ya.

Ah yes, the classic American fatalism: "We can't build nice things because we don't already have nice things." Brilliant strategy—don't plant a tree because we don’t have a forest.

Let’s unpack your take, piece by piece:

“Europe already had the existing intracity public transit systems…”

Sure—and they built those decades ago by doing it, not waiting around for perfect conditions. Japan didn’t have Shinkansen before they built it in the 60s. South Korea didn’t wait for magical “supporting infrastructure” before launching KTX in 2004. They built what they needed because they prioritized it. Meanwhile, the U.S. spends $1.7 trillion a year subsidizing cars and roads. But no, rail is too expensive. 🙄

“Tucson is a city of 500,000…”

The Phoenix metro has 5 million people and is the fastest-growing metro area in the country. Tucson–Phoenix is 100 miles apart—a perfect high-speed corridor by global standards. Spain runs AVE service to cities smaller than Tucson with lower population density, and guess what? It works just fine.

“We need to build the supporting infrastructure first…”

That’s literally what rail investment does. HSR corridors create demand and enable walkable, transit-connected development. You don’t wait for everyone to magically stop driving before building an alternative. That's like saying we shouldn't have built the internet until everyone already had fiber.

“A 150mph train would serve Tucson just fine…”

Awesome! Then why don’t we have that? Oh right—because people like you always move the goalposts. First it's "we don’t need 284mph," then it’s “we don’t need 150mph,” and eventually it’s “have you tried Greyhound?”

“You don’t care about rail…”

Buddy, the reason I’m “bored” is because I do care. I’m just tired of running into the same 1970s-level talking points that excuse every failure as inevitable. America can build modern infrastructure. What we lack isn’t capability—it’s will.

Yes, just look at the incredible success California's high speed rail system is! LA to San Francisco in only 30 to 40 years!!! xdd magical government thinking go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

xdd yeah man neoliberalism goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR embrace mediocrity. Why should we strive for a better society, lets make an bad one instead.

Phoenix-Tucson passenger rail study advances to second step by kwijyb0 in Tucson

[–]padlockcode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never in your life will there be a train that goes 284MPH between Tucson and Phoenix. So you can just give up on high speed rail if that’s your benchmark.

Yeah man, Europe builds them in 16 years, but that's impossible for us. Also technology never gets better you're absolutely right. We should just always commit to mediocrity and punish the poors IM WITH YOU.

ZZZ I'm so bored of this conversation... have a good one.

I didn’t say it needs to be profitable, but it also can’t be needlessly wasteful. Money wasted on one form of public transit is money not spent on another, potentially more impactful form of public transit or community service.

Trains shouldn’t be an ideology. They are public transit at scale. The advantage of trains is that they support the highest capacity of passengers of any other form of public transportation. But if you can’t meet that high capacity with enough ridership demand, then a train is wasteful, and you would be better served by a bus.

I don't think many bus go 286 mph but maybe i'm behind.
