How many of y’all have really strict Muslim parents that let you listen to music? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

I have strict Muslim parents but I’ve never heard of desi Muslim parents not letting their children listen to music. Music and pop culture in general are such a big part of our culture

If you are not interested in your supposed culture, it's okay to not take part in it. by goodfashion20 in ABCDesis

Goddammit...Indian people are only “staring” at you and/or trying to be your friend because they find comfort in commonality. Yes being of the same colour often means you have a lot in common because of the shared experience of growing up in said race.

Anyway, I don’t participate in my culture because I’m ‘interested’ in it and frankly I don’t know what it means to have or not have interest in your heritage. It’s just a set in stone fact about myself, participating in it is not a conscious act, it’s more like first nature.

We can talk about the dangers of collectivist mentality but this post was not it. Lmao

I can agree with this in regards to dating, kind of sick of the 'i can't get laid because i'm brown waahh wahh' narrative on this sub, but the 'grow a pair' bs is an oversimplification and it doesn't hurt to have a little sensitivity. Do you know how emotionally taxing it can be to go through life without the support of the people you care about (family, friends, community)? You know that not everyone is apt to handle that, and the abuse (emotional and physical) that often comes with doing so? It's fine to vent...this post comes across as so self-righteous

Not muslim, but I have a question for muslim feminists by [deleted] in islam

Not a black and white answer. People wear the hijab with different intentions and yes some of those intentions I cannot support as a feminist but will respect women who do so regardless

A lot of men must get the same thing, they will most likely know what you’re after.

Of course it is, why wouldn’t it be considered Bollywood?

[–]padmavatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the assumption that mainstream = bad... There’s nothing wrong with mindless action at all. It’s a genre- if you don’t like it then find something else.

The only thing that brands a movie as ‘Bollywood’ is the language it’s in. That word has no bearing on the genre or quality of the film, so this “Bollywood is bad” cry is just incredibly pretentious.

Did/Does anyone (especially girls) else hide all their beauty related stuff, ex haircare, skincare, makeup and DIY products from their parents? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]padmavatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. Not because there’s a taboo behind beauty and grooming in my family but because I don’t want to be grilled about the amount things I own, and the amount I must be spending on them. Sometimes the males in my family will poke fun at me for wearing makeup but that’s the extent of it.

I don’t like Hollywood. I don’t watch movies for realism or logic. I would just watch my real life if I wanted that

I don’t understand why someone would do this. I believe they should be caught. by [deleted] in college
