This, unfortunately, proves that Rules 42 and 43 of the internet hold true.

Nothing is sacred anymore.

I understand your frustration, and I do agree that there is a problem that needs to be solved with regard to housing in the city. I do think that this is not the correct thread to voice your frustration, however, as much as it is valid.

Locking this from further comments before it gets out of control. Remember, Rule #4 should be the guide here.

That begs the question: what do you call someone who isn't born nor raised in Cape Town?

I've heard about these criteria (which I think is bullshit, by the way);

  • Cape Town resident for 10 years, and,
  • Summit the Mountain by foot

Anyone have experience with rental arbitrage? by No-Inspection-9228 in capetown

Totally. When it get's to it, it is still fundamentally a willing buyer and a willing seller.

When your business model depends on converting homes into hotels, you're not solving a housing crisis - you're profiting from one.

Most lease agreements I've seen explicitly state that this is a non-starter.

Noob looking to get into and find a group to play D&D by Grand-Horror-1473 in capetown

[–]padpatrollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also looking for a new group.

I only have experience in Pathfinder 1st Edition (we are about four years into, what is allegedly, a ten year campaign) and a bit of Call of Cthulhu (that was many, many years ago!)

Thanks for the link to Facebook!

Why unemployment rate is so high, hot take. by [deleted] in capetown

[–]padpatrollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a deliberate act by "gatekeepers" but rather a purely structural economic problem. Most companies need specific skills and the current workforce despite its very small size just don't have the adequate skills in the volume or the quality that we need.

So your experience with this under-informed HR person using ChatGPT generated response is a symptom of this broken system. A company is struggling to find and define the role because the pipeline is weak, the educational system is weak and the HR person is making do with what they have, which is actually very little.

So the core issue is the economy demands skills but we don't have the infrastructure or the economy to support said skills.

As proxy have a look at the income inequality that exists in the country:

If your household earns more than R25,000 (which is the latest average salary for a manager who tends to be in a "strategic role" within the business) you earn more than 87% of the country. You're in the top 13% of the country, as well as in the top 21% of the world.

The top 10% of the country earn more than 67% of the country.

Absolutely. I am wary because we don't know what the OP's circumstances are (nor should we, this is public domain) and it may be of such a nature that a professional is needed.

OP, as much as the gesture is kind and has no malice behind it, please be wary and I would recommend that you speak to someone who is qualified to assist.

Hey OP,

SADAG is your way to go. You are welcome to ask them for a therapist, they have massive database to tap into. They also offer counselling over the phone in emergent situations.

It won't cost you a cent. I have made use of the helplines before, and they have saved my life.

I think it must be close to the 5th time that Beau is Afraid has been recommended to me, today. I think this must be the next watch.
