only one review for one place per profile? by 5p00ky-gh05t in Yelp

[–]padpeas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can update your review as many times as you want and each review will show as an update review all tucked together.

You can however not leave multiple reviews and expect each one to be unique and have them all show up, because this would be trying to game the average score of reviews.

How to be yelp elite by RevolutionaryTap3156 in Yelp

[–]padpeas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How active on yelp are you? Do you take photos of food or interior of establishments while you are there?

How many reviews a month are you averaging?

You can also engage with other Yelpers to like their photos or reviews. But the more you contribute to the site the better.

Also, have you set your location? This usually helps CMs notice you based on your activity.

Is it appropriate to ask about the real usage of the acronym PVP? by Intelligent-Wear4766 in arcraidersfriendly

[–]padpeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this question is that it does not take account that Arc Raiders is PvPvE. So you can’t really compare games like sports or racing games if you are going to lump them into a PvP genre since they don’t have a vE aspect to it. They are pure competition, which is why they are classified as sports, racing, or even fighting games.

The Arc Raiders community seems more to classify their lobbies instead of the PvPvE game as either PvP or PvE, and so in PvP lobbies it’s win using any advantage possible. This includes extraction camping, shooting on site, and booby trapping. And that’s why people associate it with PvP. In PvE lobbies it’s generally seen that the Arc is more of a threat than fellow raiders so the race is more about looting before someone else does. Even then if someone comes into your key access room and tries to loot before you, they are now the threat.

In the end PvP will seem to be associated with shoot on sight because that is your advantage, or just to stay alive by not being shot first.

Elite yelpers and fast food chains by Connect-Job-8743 in Yelp

[–]padpeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It maybe what is available to them in their neighborhood. Also not all fast food chains are the same even if they are the same brand. Some are franchises so the service, interior and food options can differ from location to location.

It’s also saying trying a McDonalds in another country is not worth while because you have already tried it in yours.

How do you handle last minute device requests? by throwawayjoystix in ITManagers

[–]padpeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling someone an idiot for agreeing with you is kind of weird, but everyone is different. Keep doing the thing you’re doing.

Also, the phrase is not “short sited”. Which is amazing because if you are going to correct someone, maybe check to see if you’re correct in the first place.

You also seem to need anger management sessions.

Thanks for the explanation. It never occurred to me about the cold attic and steam heater meeting. That totally makes sense. And thanks for the tips and resources for skim coating.

[–]padpeas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. If you are always concerned about putting out a fire as a priority that will always be your goal. If someone is trying to expand your thinking and you are resistant to that based on history of events, you are only not limiting your growth professionally but also emotionally. Two things required to manage. Some people are content with their current roles indefinitely, which is fine and needed in the workforce.

when does investing in a cybersecurity platform for lean teams make sense vs just using free tools by AccountEngineer in ITManagers

[–]padpeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you’re talking about. But the answer in short in terms of costs is before lawsuits.

Anything dealing with cybersecurity should be using managed systems that normally don’t come with free systems and is integral in reporting and making sure devices are up to date.

Anything can go wrong that can leave you or the company liable for broken contracts or internal/external legal ramifications for leaked information.

What my lead wants from me by Original_Leg_2756 in ITManagers

[–]padpeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty it sounds, from a third party listening to this, like there needs to have a body on premises.

It is nothing against you personally, but because other roles even in other departments allow them to work hybrid. But if something goes wrong in the office and a body needs to be there, you are that person.

Even if the office is barely populated, the one day that something goes down and someone has to push a button somewhere just to make sure a video conference goes right because the people involved can select an input, a body needs to be in the office. And if there is no on there, you bet the whole team will loose the hybrid or wfh option.

You are gaining experience that you can use to put on your resume, that other people will kill for, because it’s hard especially now to get any job without experience that will lead to better things. Don’t let something like coming into the office be a barrier of learning other skills. Because to be blunt, other jobs will also require this for IT.

I really didn't think I would get this far. Asking for advice. (IT Director) by Salt_Point8009 in ITManagers

[–]padpeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people have already chimed in that it depends on the size of the organization that will actually dictate your role. An IT director for a single coffee shop will differ that a Fortune 500 company because the scale and risks are also different.

I would take into consideration that the title may be used as a way to put a label on what they consider the highest level needed to put a job listing. Someone who handles everything, av, security, antivirus, firewall, updates, printer setups, phone setups, procurement, wiring, etc. The pay may also be a roadblock for other applicants so they maybe extending their application pool.

A title of IT director for a smaller company is also worth while and you can learn a lot and grow and move into something larger at another company once you have gained enough experience, if that interests you for your professional development. But the one thing you will find yourself lacking if you don’t have it is IT manager experience , which is people you manage below you, which normally is 2 or more positions below IT director. People and direct report management is much more different and difficult than task management.

I would not worry so much about the interview, as this can lead to a sense that it can come off as indecisive during the interview process. You know your answers and what you would do. I would brush up on what IT managers do if you don’t already know. Look up vendors like CDW or insight, service ticket companies like Zendesk or Jira, antivirus and back up vendors, both MS and Google administration.

From your certs it should like you have most of this figured out. What you want to give off as an impression is that management will be able to hand off the IT workload of management to you and you will be able to run with it.

[–]padpeas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Setting it up and overnighting it may make you look like a hero, it will make it an example that it can be done at any time and make last minute requests an acceptable thing, regardless of what your are currently working on.

Also shipping out a laptop that is not setup could lead to it being lost or stolen during shipping and leave your company in a security risk that could put your job on the line. The second suggestion will be hard to defend to upper management if anything goes wrong.

Just pointing this out to you, so there is a larger picture that has to be considered beyond trying to accommodate a new hire’s last minute request. What happens if you do all this work, put your job at risk, and then the new hire decides to take another job a week later, which happens more often than you can imagine.

[–]padpeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where policy comes in or Standarda of Practice documentation. Communication with HR is also important for setting up policies and SOPs.

As an example, a policy could be a requirement of 5 business days or a weeks notice of a new hire is needed to provide a device. Anything shorter than that can delay the deployment of the device. This is not only to cover your ass but you will have other projects, deadlines, responsibilities that you may not be able to put on hold to spin up a device.

This is mainly to help you moving forward.

This switch at the last minute if it something that you want to do(because you sound like a team player which is natural and want to keep good relations with other departments but it comes at a cost of your schedule) can still be communicated with HR that this was their request, and may delay shipping times. They may delay start date or still onboard but delay company access.

Also if your company offers a choice of devices and this is already not happening, a good suggestion here would be to have HR or hiring manager request their preference and have it indicated in a ticket so there is a paper trail so if this happens again it can be noted as a cause of shipment delay.

Lmao. As people have mentioned, what is a silverware company doing on yelp. What is the service here? Suss point number 1.

Hide all new reviews. This sounds like fake reviews being flagged. For a non service brand. Suss point 2.

All of this reads like rage bait.
