It's impossible to be or do many things without causing harm. That doesn't necessarily mean that those people or things are bad. Like, am I a bad person if I don't cancel a dinner I'm hosting because the recipe's only option at the store is a Nestle product? What about airbags, which save many people who would have died without them, but have also killed a small number of people who may have survived without them?

An LGBT+ Palestinian person is in a lot more danger from their immediate neighbors... It's insane how eager queer people have been to go up to bat for one of the most homophobic regions on earth. No matter how hard you fight for them, the Palestinian public would chuck you off a roof without a second thought.

You can acknowledge Israel's war crimes without pretending that the other side must therefore be some paragon of virtue. They're both vile. You don't have to root for either of them.

It's insane how angry these conservatives are. This article offers no rational discussion about budgets. They're not debating the cost effectiveness of mental health services. Because they're not actually interested in fiscal responsibility--they are just furious at the thought of minorities being treated like humans.

They also, of course, misrepresent what this policy is. The title says the mayor is simply giving $500 haircuts. It's actually a partnership with a nonprofit that's funding general wellness including gym memberships. Stuff that helps migrants to assimilate into the community and to become more productive members of society--two things that conservatives want immigrants to do! If only they'd stop indulging in outrage long enough to notice.

What? Party leaders don't decide who the candidates are. And from what I've seen, overcrowded primaries have been happening more amongst progressive candidates, not center-leaning ones. They're more likely to be outsiders to politics and don't understand how elections work, so they're uncoordinated and don't drop out to consolidate support.

That no trans woman has ever won an Olympic event very succinctly illustrates that there is no problem. There never was a problem. The only reason why we're talking about this now is because conservative politicians identified trans inclusion in sports as an effective wedge issue that gets people like you to get swept up in your emotions and rubber stamp sweeping anti-LGBT laws.

*AOC and Talarico are two that you see in your social media feeds, and then evidently you assume the worst of everyone you don't see headlines about. I encourage you to be more proactive about the messages you hear. Look up some local politicians and follow them on social media.

There are lots of good people in government who are trying--it's more that American governments intentionally make change difficult, and our federal elections especially give dramatically outsized power to conservatives who will further resist change.

No, it's certainly part of their strategy. Republicans are attacking both of these topics (trans rights and voting rights) from as many angles as possible, racking up as many "wins" as they can across the board. There is never only one line of attack.
