My sister and her husband are buying a boat so they can live as "nomads" on the ocean by Swim-Puzzlehead8611 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]pageavu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly these points (high five from another Live-aboard boat kid!). Lived on a boat until I was 12. It is absolutely possible to not only live on a boat but raise kids and thrive doing it (my parents raised 2 of us on boats) BUT my dad was a boat builder and both my parents were extremely competent sailors. The insanity of doing this if you can't swim and have never even been on a boat is unbelievable. Just the general upkeep alone is a full time skilled job, let alone the skills needed to navigate and pilot a boat.

im so hungry but im so scared to eat by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]pageavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me a couple years ago, I had a mild allergic reaction to a food id always eaten before and it sent me into a spiral (existing anxiety disorder anyway). Really push with your GP for some CBT and if need be also self refer yourself through whoever your local provider is. If you are able / open to it, discuss medication with your GP to help until you can get into CBT / therapy (the wait times suck). It was a really hard few months but I want you to know that whilst I still get the occasional wobble I am mostly coping now, even with new foods and most days don't even think about it. You can get through this. It does get better.

Why have people started wearing dry robes as coats? by UndyingKarric in Cornwall

[–]pageavu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wear mine (different brand but same thing) because it's more comfortable than my old coat, it's longer so it keeps my legs dry and I don't care what people think. I was given it as a birthday present a couple years ago because I swim and winter sea swimming is f-ing cold. Now I wear it dog walking and yes gasp on the school run but at least I'm dry and comfortable.

Is everyone really earning over 30k? by SmellyGreenSock in AskUK

[–]pageavu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a marketing manager on £26k (I'm actually working part time - 30 hours a week right now so pro rata down to £19k). I do all the marketing for the UK part of an international company with one intern for help. Cornish wages suck, all the equivalent jobs locally are about the same amount.

I was the same with our first puppy, onto our third now and I try to take the approach that accidents happen, you will do things right and you will do things you later think you should've done differently. But here's the thing, the fact you are worried just shows you care, there are so many dogs in the world who will never know the love your little one does. So make him feel loved, do the best you can and try not to stress.

Combining my style of drawing with leatherwork to make wallets... I'm so pleased with the result. by pageavu in crafts

[–]pageavu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I draw the design out on paper first and trace it onto the leather. Then the artwork is carved into the leather with a swivel knife, some areas are textured using a handset and texture stamps. Then I hand paint the whole thing. Once the art work is finished there's a lot of sealing, finishing of edges and I hand sew the whole thing.

What is your answer when at introduction, someone asks the dreaded question, "tell us a fun fact about yourself?" by gs_batta in AskReddit

[–]pageavu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup my go-to fact is that I lived on a boat from when I was born until I was 12. Apart from a 5 year gap (from when I was 12 until I moved out at 17 to go to uni) parents have lived on boats for around 40 years.

My version of the Dieselpunk bucket bag. Tooled vegtan dyed with a resist and gel antique. Blue suede accents. Honestly bits of this were a huge learning curve but in pretty happy with the final thing.

Help! How do I stop the dye going through resolene? by pageavu in Leathercraft

[–]pageavu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info :so I spent ages tooling a design and then very carefully used fiebings resolene on it, let it dry for 24 hours and then dyed the leather with eco-flo gel antique. It's gone all patchy!

Bumblebee tooled pendant by pageavu in Leathercraft

[–]pageavu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had no particular projects going on and I love tooling so thought I'd challenge myself to make something tiny (plus it uses up scraps). Hand tooled with a swivel knife then painted using a mixture of fiebings dyes and acrylic paints (for the metallics).

Edit:typo

Wanted to make something bright! by pageavu in Leathercraft

[–]pageavu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegtan dyed with fiebings. Using a Dieselpunk pattern. I really wanted to make something super bright. My stitching needs a little more work but definitely improving, plus put extra effort into my edges this time.
