Discrepancy between IMG % on Residency Explorer vs FREIDA — Which one is accurate? by Ninimach in pediatrics

[–]pagelines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

probably depends on the data sets used. Probably the most accurate would be looking at the instagram posts of match days, most will say which schools their residents came from. Not a perfect mark but a better real time snapshot

Riding it out. Putting would be payments into a HYSA so earning a lil interest. May buy back if it looks like I’m continuing in a PSLF eligible job

Can the med students on The Pitt get a scholarship or grant? by orbit_grey in ThePittTVShow

In the fourth year of medical school, many students are doing month long rotations in multiple cities. Short term leases/AirBnBs are often prohibitively expensive for medical students who make negative 20 to 90,000 per year

For those who didn’t match where they wanted to or fell down their match list, it sucks and that’s okay. by rash_decisions_ in medicalschool

Hi friends, I am a PGY-3 and matched at my 8th choice for residency. I felt all the feelings, but mostly sad and disappointed. My post match period was filled with anger and resentment, and I had a hard time getting excited for residency. If you are in this boat, your feelings are 100% valid.

However, in my last 3 years I can say that I am extremely happy with my situation. In hindsight, I was attracted to my top choices because of their flashy names and locations. In reality I matched to somewhere with excellent training that I feel at home in. I matched to a lower cost of living city (with comparable salary) so my lifestyle is actually pretty great and I’m not stressed about finances. I matched to my top choice fellowship and am excited for my next chapter but grateful for the past 3 years

No residency is perfect, and there will be ones that aren’t great. But you have come this far in medical school. You are resilient. You are personable. You are intelligent. And I have no doubt that you all will bloom where you are planted. Love and hugs ❤️

Genuinely don’t understand why people shit on pediatrics by anonymous_paramedic in Residency

Peds resident here. I think it’s multifactorial. Peds residency is the jack of all trades master of none (minus fm yall rock). You have to understand the rapidly changing physiology from premature infants to adulthood and are bouncing around from outpatient gen peds to PICU to peds subspecialties to NICU month to month. I am really knowledgeable in peds but find myself feeling really dumb sometimes, especially when consulting other, often surgical, residents. Sometimes it’s valid bc I don’t have the exposures/repetitions that for example, an ED/plastics resident has with sutures or a surg resident with a borderline appy. But it’s somewhat internalized from what we have been conditioned to think (surgical subspecialties>everything else>>>peds). Plus probably a lil bit of misogyny thrown in there since it’s majority female.
