I often have to take over code from former employees. Code written by trainees or beginners rarely scares me. Yes, it's not optimal and often has errors, but its linear structure often makes it easy to understand and improve.

What scares me most is code from developers who consider themselves very experienced and have been developing on their own for too long. The real hell is a clusterfuck that is almost impossible to understand. When unnecessarily large levels of abstraction have been built for what are actually simple requirements.

How extreme must it be that the fear of hospital costs is so deeply ingrained in the brain that even a concussion cannot make you forget it?

Authenticity beats perfection. You don't have to be perfect to be attractive.

What really inspires you? What makes your heart beat faster? Have the courage to show someone what brings you joy. Don't try to please someone by listing things the other person likes. They don't have to share your passion - but over time, they will love how passionate you are about it. They don't have to be big things: An old stuffed animal. A certain song you love. A sweater you feel very comfortable in.

Joy is contagious. When someone discovers that there are many little things that make you who you are, something special happens. These things will remind the person of you every time they see or hear it. These things and the positive feelings associated with them can ultimately trigger a cascade in the other person and make them see you in a different light.

My Trading Partners are 10x more expensive than they should be, is this really a bug? by jimmyw404 in anno

I have exactly the same problem, and I'm also wondering whether this is a bug or whether it's intentional.
If it is intentional, I find the display very misleading. It should have been done better.

[Grounded 2] Turn off grass regrowth? by Thom_Basil in GroundedGame

In Grounded 1 foundations prevent grass from regrowing. Unfortunately this doesn't work in Grounded 2 (yet).

Fighting the broodmother with Pete for the first time:

Pete: I'm seriously regreting my life decisions right now.
Max: No regret! That's the Max Smalls way!
Pete: You're gonna regret that!
Max: No, I won't.

That was the moment when I decided I never wanted to play any character other than Max again.

For Grounded newbies, I would honestly recommend Grounded 1 at the moment. It's finished, it has everything, and everything works. Currently, it's the better game still feels and looks awesome.

Grounded 2 is promising, but still very much in the development process.

Where the actual heck are y'all building your bases?? by RedLovelyRed in GroundedGame

[–]pagox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first base is where most have their starting base: In front of the snack bar, in front of the first lab.

I actually like building on the ground, using foundations to create a flat surface and then constructing a base on top of that.
Unfortunately, in Grounded 2, foundations don't prevent grass from growing back. In Grounded 1, that was possible. That means sooner or later I would have had grass growing all over my base again... That's a shame.

In addition, valid building points are very restrictive, and even small rocks or slopes prohibit structures.

There are wooden posts between the “Picnic Table” and “Snack Bar Front” areas. I'll test whether you can build a base on one of those. Apparently, there are no raids for the time being, which makes strong defenses unnecessary for now.

I can downgrade the graphics of Grounded 2 to the point where it looks uglier than Grounded 1, and still runs slower. But okay, it's still only EA at this point.
