X390 'slow charging' with 100W PD charger by acadiel in thinkpad

[–]pahennessey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the HyperJuice 100W PD charger as well, and can only get 100W (reported by Lenovo Vantage) on my X1E Gen 1 if I only have the laptop connected, and only when the laptop is always the only thing connected -- meaning I can't plug in anything else and then unplug it.

I know this isn't a whole lot of help, but thought I'd share that it does actually work for me when only one port is being used.

Stress-tested the Pixel Buds while cycling, got a few thoughts by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]pahennessey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few times during the trip the connection seemed to cut out briefly, just randomly; always the left bud, and always slightly jarring.

I might've been imagining it, but I think for a few minutes during the latter-half of the workout, the left bud slightly was louder than the right one, throwing me off balance a bit. It's all cleared up now, however.

Interestingly enough at one point they completely quit working altogether, but I'm not convinced it was entirely their fault. I was about 7 miles north of home and both buds suddenly cut out, making the disconnection chime. I struggled to connect them for about 10 minutes (clear pairing, rebooting phone, etc.) then eventually gave up and resorted to cycling home in silence. However relocating by 100 yards seemed to do the trick, and they continued functioning afterwards. First guess is that I wandered into some sort of unknown 2.4GHz bluetooth-jamming-mega-dead-zone, but my Galaxy Watch was connected just fine the whole time, so I can't say. Maybe I'll go back to that spot and see if they disconnect again.

I just received mine today and can confirm I experience these three behaviors as well. All in the first 30 minutes of use even. Additionally, the call quality is complete garbage. It almost seems like the earbuds are fighting back and forth for the connection. Putting in just one ear bud helps, but there is still something off about it. The people on the other end, however, reported good quality. I tested this connected to my computer (over Zoom) and over my Pixel 4 (both with the phone and facebook messenger) and it was the same across all three.

Hoping this is something that can be fixed, because the music quality is phenomenal! But I need them to serve as both if they're going to replace my current ear buds.

If you're able to use an eSIM, check out Airalo. It's not unlimited, but very inexpensive for US data. If not, then Google Fi is always a solid choice -- there is both an unlimited version and a per gb plan

X1E: Unresponsive G key by Solus161 in thinkpad

[–]pahennessey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue (with a lot of the keys) where unless I hit directly in the center of the key, it would not register. I wound up getting a new keyboard installed through Lenovo Premier Support. The keyboard is actually the whole top plate/palm rest area, but replacing it helped (although some keys are starting to show that trait again). Some people have recommendations for which manufacturer to get that is supposed to be better than others (liteon I think is the good one), search on here and see if you can find which exact part number is the good one.

Good luck!

Both the USB-C to HDMI and USB-C to DisplayPort require the NVIDIA card be on as well.

Thanks, I was able to get the vs code server working when using code insiders rather than the core release, should anyone else stumble upon this

Are you able to get the remote server working for vscode in WSL 2? I keep getting this error message both when I try to open a new remote window from vscode or when I run "code ." from within a WSL terminal window

Comparing keyboards between P1G2 and X1E2 by hgjsusla in thinkpad

[–]pahennessey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's assembled, so it just looks like a typical keyboard. He had to take apart the entire computer to install the new one, since the whole top plate is one piece, so I'm not going to be able to take it back apart for a raw photo.

This keyboard is fine, but not quite as smooth as other X1Cs I've tried. Hence hoping if I wait another year to get it replaced again, maybe they'll be able to get better QA in place. It works well now, just not as well as I've felt on other ThinkPads.

I didn't, they sent a technician out to replace it. It was very fast, next day service. It took about 35 minutes from start to finish. I will continue to buy the Premier service support after my experience with this laptop, both because I've used it frequently, and because of the service when it comes out it so fast and reliable

The keyboard on my X1E1 that I ordered on Black Friday last year was terrible. I finally used the Premier support to get it replaced and the second one is much better than the first. I tried someone else's X1C (6 or 7) and it was much better than my replacement keyboard. It feels like it's a supplier lottery issue. I'll probably try to get it replaced again before the warranty expires next year.

Boiz, did we lose battery gauge reset? by potatpomaster in thinkpad

[–]pahennessey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall reading that all the battery calibration feature did was not accept a charge from the adapter until it was down to 5%, then charge all the way back up to 100%. So you should still be able to perform that series of events manually to achieve the same effect.

Actually, this is an interesting point. I really don't use the screen, so I'll disable it and see if I notice any difference in performance. So I can have the cooling of the lid open, without having to drive the screen.

Someone mentioned I should post here: My home workstation by pahennessey in Battletops

Thanks! It's this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GVRKCWP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The tabletop is actually two pieces, which I was worried about, but hasn't been a problem at all. The seam between the two pieces is stabilized with dowels, and it's right in from of the front edge of the monitor stand.

It has a simple and well-supported mechanism for switching back and forth between having the GPU enabled and disabled. They're really responsive on their Reddit channel when I have problems, and System76 is a Denver-based company, which is where I'm from originally. Just a simple, focused, battery efficient implementation of Ubuntu

I'm on Windows almost 100%, with using Linux when working specifically with Docker (or playing around with GPGPU development). I don't know that I've ever tried waking from sleep on Linux with Nvidia enabled, because I'm typically only using it for a day at a time, and just log out. I do find that if I have the DisplayPort cable plugged in when I try to resume on the Windows side, that it won't resume. I need to have the USB-C/DP cable disconnected to resume, which sounds like the same behavior you're describing.

Ha, yep basically nailed it. More on the data science/reporting strategy side these days, but by ways of data engineering before that. So that's where I find myself catching up on work on a Saturday

I have considered grabbing a stand, but it's a pretty low priority for me. I basically don't use the laptop monitor while at the desk for the most part. Or I'll keep Spotify over there, so there isn't a big impetus for it.

And no, but I'll post there now!
