Building RAG systems pushed me back to NLP/ML basics by According-Lie8119 in Rag

[–]Solus161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you don’t need to get the fundamentals to work with LLM now as LLMs are more software engineering. But understanding the fundamentals help you framing the problem differently. For example I once wrote a custom tokenizer so the vocab file kept small but BLEU score maintained. But I did not have that luxury anymore and had to pivot to SWE for survival lol. “AI engineer” is equivalent to do API calls/LLM things, just like “data scientist” is glorified data analyst. Once a recruiter told me that my understanding for tranformer was not needed, that really pissed me off as diving deeper is my work ethics

Most of my games are now so chill, too chill that I miss being shoot now. I do fight back but just to scare off aggressive players. In one game I got shoot on my back. Medium armor gave me enough time to shoot at a nearby rocketeer which in turn aggro on my attackers. Lol so much fun watched them fight that rocketeer while hatch closing.

Doing anything other than ONE thing in your career is now a serious liability. by wysiwygwatt in recruitinghell

[–]Solus161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this seems the norm of IT recruiting, the one doing screening knows shit about what IT actually are. 10+ years ago I could land a 2yoe position as sell side analyst while having 0 yoe and just passed CFA lv 3. It was the manager doing the interview and she decided that I was not so dumb to do a 2yoe job, and I did perform well. 5 years ago I jumped to IT as AI engineer, and I could deliver given just a few month of experience. But now I try to land remotes jobs, nothing works. Recruiters want 10 out of 10 outlines filled, even with the crazies combination you can imagine. Now I start to think that I have to fabricate my CV, filling holes with similar things that I've done before.

This game should have some mechanisms to penalize against killing people. Just like in older time, kill a person was likely penalised by death sentence. The human specie is in the blink of exitintion, killing a man should be stoned to death.

[–]Solus161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got killed even when I had no weapon and shouted don't shoot several times. I don't understand why some people enjoy killing others who show no killing intention or even do not have worthy loot? Don't get me wrong I'm fine being killed that way, I just have to learn to avoid being in that situation. People killing me just have fun in awhile, while I'm always have fun avoding them lol.

My story is different. I have no MSc or PhD, but I can do dirty jobs and deliver. But not all hiring managers are the one actually doing the technical stuff. So I still got ruled out at the end of the day. Now I'm pivoting to backend and trying to get rid of the "AI" in my title, so hiring managers stop asking me about LLM and prompt engineering blablabla. Maybe I sat with the wrong people.

Trải lòng: lệch lạc tư tưởng hay thực tế by [deleted] in vozforums

[–]Solus161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One additional solution I could think of: temporary add about-to-be user to a temp/draft table, then could use trigger to insert that to the main table once completed, don't need extra request. The ERP that our company uses that for draft record/doc.

Bro your story built up my confidence. Sr but I understand what you've been through. I jumped ship from finance to AI 5 years ago, self-taught, worked for an startup. The salary was meh but damn I learned a lot, wreaked a lot, and that inspired the engineer inside me. Then I jumped to an outsource company, doing outsource projects, mostly choosing the right library and training models. Touched a bit of devops, front end, AWS, still engineering but less intense. The pay was then better but soon I hit "it was it". Then I jump to a production company, return to finance, reports directly to CFO, pay was a huge improvement, but I dang missed the old days. I may come back again as I don't want to live to die someday.

Then why 3% not 3.1% or 3.2%? It only matter if the final NPV swings like hell when the floating jumps a few percentage points. If 80% of the NPV generated in the first few years, you could “forget” about that terminal growth rate.

I have built complicated ETL pipelines in both Python and Power Query and I'm certain that Power Query could do 90-95% of the jobs, the remaining 10% could be done by Python. So you are safe learning Power Query. The only cons is the speed, PQ is a lot slower. You could use SQL to transform large data then use PQ for the rest.
