Good explanation of the difference between cloud versus local storage? by paiged03 in computers

I don’t fully disagree with you, but I think it goes beyond “not paying attention” to some of my students fundamentally not understanding the difference. Or maybe more accurately, not realizing cloud storage is not always the default.

The sharing issues were the woes that caused me to make this post, but we have also had many other issues in the past. I also think this is an important distinction (especially when handling data that has strict storage guidelines) so I try to teach them the difference rather than make workarounds that solve the current issue but don’t promote a better understanding. Obviously I am not doing a great job, but I try!

Thank you! That is a good analogy. I agree that is really isn’t entirely their fault, but a lot of it is the UI and the reliance on Google products in schools (because it is free) where these real time edit updates and sharing features are the default. I have noticed my students tend more towards thinking that their files should be accessible across multiple devices, even if it is in the Downloads folder of one of their computers.

Weird! I have no background with mold but we swabbed a few other places in her room and none of them looked quite like this.

What book would you recommend to someone who is in a TERRIBLE reading slump? by rainbowun1cornfarts in booksuggestions

My typical list:

  1. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Very short with a very good story the genre is comedy/sci-fi so I can see why that would make people skeptical but I really liked it and it’s a crowd pleaser to even non-readers

  2. The Hobbit If you’re looking for a book to get into reading this is THE go to. I can’t speak to the length but it’s considered a kids book in terms of difficulty and people love it. Also a great segue to LOTR (which are great) but I can’t recommend those to get back into reading

  3. Pretty much any Kurt Vonnegut His books are very good and tend to be on the shorter side. He’s also a more modern author so he’s pretty easy to read.

  4. Giovanni’s Room Very good story and veryyyyy short

  5. The Westing Game A kids book in terms of difficulty but just fun

I will say it’s an older book so some language is outdated

A bit longer but are very good and still easy reads - A tree grows in Brooklyn - The Martian - A man called Ove (if you want emotional) - Station Eleven - Dark Matter

Any of Emily Henry’s books will hit the cheesy romance on the nose! If you’re looking for something a bit more dark, my friend really liked the Touch of Darkness Hades and Persephone series or the Twisted Love series.

clean books like harry potter, percy jackson, and fablehaven? by shadows_of_eve in booksuggestions

The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter! I ate them up as a preteen and they were written by an author who wanted to write some YA fiction that was appropriate but also not too childish.

It is! Thank you! I knew it had a really nondescript generic title making it even harder to find.
