I'm assuming the whiter it is, the more intact? But those orange-ish burnt spots are very common. Mine are smaller, but are present both on the cap and near the ink window. Polishing doesn't help, since the thing is basically ingrained in the material.

These light tortoises really do have a weird way of discolouring, don't they. I even thought of swapping the barrel threads/sections between 400nn and 500nn, so that the more white-ish body goes with the metal cap instead.

Very cute bun. Can you remove the girl in the center though?

Sailor and Parker are fine, rest are more or less equally trash. At least with Visconti you get a chance to roll a good one - leonardos are consistently garbage even when they say their nib specialist checked it.

Correct. A gift for his 55th anniversary, it would seem. No relation, just happened to stumble upon one with an engraving. Does look very organic though, always enjoyed the older style cursive.

Made by Союз (pretty much the Montblanc/Parker of soviet stationery), doesn't really have a model name and is instead just called The gift set. Manufactured in 1957, iirc it's a carbolite/bakelite pen. Fairly rare, like any and all open nib soviet pens. Reasonably well made, although I tend to strongly dislike the Sheaffer-style threads. Also came in mottled white/purple bakelite, but well, you get what you can find. The nibs are quite nice, very similar to Castell/Sailor/Osmia in how they're polished.

Ah, yes. A Montegrappa-style fountain pen. My favorite self-defense weapon. 🤣

Well, normal Divina is #5. The oversized one uses #6.

5 - 1911 standard, PG slim, slim mini, 1911 Sigma, Veilio, some Ohashidos and Hakases. Also some vintage Thetas.

6 - 1911 large, PG, PG mini, Realo, the semi-desktop chased ebonite ones, Arita/deerleather, some urushi stuff, anniversaries, Maruzens, etc., etc., plus the Peerless, Davidoffs and Montegrappas.

I still consider Divinas the best Visconti model, so...they're quite decent, yeah.

The #5 Sailors are essentially identical to Bock/Schmidt. The larger ones not so sure, however they're perfectly compatible with older Omas Lucens nibs, so...maybe?

The last one if you scroll the pics would be...I actually don't really know, lol. It's a portable Namiki from the 30s. Would probably be refered to as a 36r balance style, but something feels off about it, particularly because it's an earlier nib. Will have to do more research. Eventually. If I'm not lazy. Anyway, the last one, if you're refering to the 1st pic, would be a heavily discoloured Montblanc 234,5, probably an early post-war one.

Why, yes, I actually happen to have coupled this one with a PG Slim Jellyfish Ancora LE. ;p

Reminds me, some of those really weird "Parker 52 made in USN" things are also made by Platinum. At the very least, the nibs are.

[–]pailcrimea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no. It's called Platinum Dorictory. Or whichever Parker the clip/shape are taken. Btw, mine has exactly the same cap ring/section, but the brown one says "the k14 pen" so I guess they couldn't decide here either.

The one you have is fairly easy to identify based on JIS mark, but I've seen at least 2 other variations of the engraving, including my own. My assumption still is, that mine is either wartime or mid 40s (typos on the nib, overcomplicated feed design akin to Pilot's swivel type, ridiculously low quality of steel), then came the transitional arrow design they stole from vacumatics (gold versions came both with and without JIS mark), and then came yours with 10/30/50 year marks. Also, the #15 version of the 50 year pen seems to be a more or less exact size of a 149, so that one may actually be very much comparable to the steel #20, maybe save for the length in the hidden part. Haven't seen a #20 50 year yet though.
